Moravany combines late Baroque architecture, historic routes and the diverse area around Duhové jezero. Château grounds with late Baroque architecture

A special cultural point of reference is the Zámecký areál Moravany château grounds. It is a late Baroque manor complex from the late 18th century with a small, villa-like residential château. Moravany is therefore centred not only around a single historic building, but around a cohesive complex whose character is shaped by the connection between the manor farm and the residence. For you as a visitor, this site offers a specific reason to view Moravany also from the perspective of Bohemian or Moravian-influenced architectural and local history.

Duhové jezero: swimming and summer and winter sports

Another focus is Duhové jezero. Duhové jezero is a former sand quarry with an adjoining sports area. The area around the lake enables summer and winter sports, thereby complementing the cultural and historical themes with a clearly more active focus for your stay. As a recreational area, Duhové jezero also offers the opportunity to swim. This allows different interests to be taken into account when planning your trip: on the one hand, there are the château, church and historical orientation, while on the other there is an area that offers swimming and sports.

Historic routes and the Church of St Peter and Paul

The Trstenická Trail belongs to the older history of the town. This historic long-distance route passed through Moravany on a route from Prague to Trstenice and onwards to Moravia. The route connects the town with a supraregional route from the past, without implying that it is a modern hiking or cycling trail. For your visit, it is primarily interesting as a historical point of reference that places Moravany in a broader Bohemian-Moravian context.

Another defining building is the Church of St Peter and Paul. It is surrounded by a cemetery and was built in 1782 as a late Baroque structure by T. Haffenecker. The precise construction date and attribution make the church a tangible example of the town’s architectural history. Together with the château grounds, it forms a cultural focal point comprising two different late Baroque examples: the manor complex with its residential château and the religious building.

Orientation in the town and choosing accommodation

A memorial plaque near the Moravany municipal office indicates the course of the 50th parallel. It complements the historic buildings and the old long-distance route with a geographical point of orientation. When choosing accommodation in Moravany, you can therefore first decide which aspect of the town is most important for your travel plans: cultural and historical discoveries, the opportunities at Duhové jezero, or a combination of both themes. Another objective criterion is the location at the intersection of the Prague–Česká Třebová and Chrudim–Borohrádek railway lines. The two lines are an independent feature of the town’s location and help place Moravany in context not only through its sights, but also through its transport connections.
