Discover Horní Jelení

Horní Jelení is located in eastern Bohemia on the border between the foothills of the Orlické Mountains and the Elbe Lowland. The church thus combines its early architectural history with later Baroque design elements and a burial place directly connected with its builder.

The Marian Column is also part of Horní Jelení’s historic character. This High Baroque monument dates from 1704, is approximately 10 metres high and is surrounded by a massive sandstone balustrade on a square ground plan. It is precisely the combination of monumental height, the sandstone ensemble and the clear geometric layout that makes the column an independent counterpoint to the church’s architecture. Forest Landscape and Pětinoha Pond

The forest landscape around Horní Jelení invites visitors to take walks to the nearby Pětinoha Pond. Rare plant species occur there, particularly the critically endangered autumnal water-starwort (Callitriche hermaphroditica L.). This botanical aspect adds another dimension to a walk: alongside the forest landscape, visitors can discover a habitat where an especially rare plant occurs.
