Skrbeň – Archaeology, History and Cycling Routes

Hradisko, a slight elevation northwest of Skrbeň, is an archaeologically investigated site. Archaeological investigations uncovered postholes from huts, storage pits, polished stone tools, ceramic fragments, blades and skeletal remains. The chapel, which was elevated to a parish church in 1869, is also part of Skrbeň’s historical heritage. Another prominent sight is the monumental Baroque statue of Saint Florian. It was created in 1706 and is the work of Václav Render. Since 1742, the statue has stood in the courtyard of the Skrbeň manor.

The Skrbeň manor complex preserves remnants of a Renaissance staircase, simple Renaissance portals bearing the coat of arms of Jan Skrbeňský z Hříště, and Baroque granaries. Different periods therefore meet in a single historic complex. For a trip focused on architecture and local history, these surviving details are more revealing than a general description of the village.

Zlatá křepelka also tells a story from another side of the region’s past. The old coachmen’s inn stood on the road from Olomouc to Prague and has been reconstructed. Its historical connection with the road points to the importance of routes and travelers, without implying any present-day transport or access service.

The Skrbeň railway stop also preserves half-timbered masonry. The historic building material adds another architectural accent alongside the Renaissance and Baroque details of the manor.
