Měrotín – Churches, Parduska and Geologické varhany

Měrotín combines a history rooted in the past with protected landscapes and unusual geological formations. If you do not want to choose a stay in the Czech Republic solely based on well-known cities, the village offers concrete points of interest for culture, nature and your own discoveries. Highlights include the parish Church of St. Martin, the chapel on the village square, Parduska Hill and the Geologické varhany. The cadastral area of Měrotín also belongs to the Litovelské Pomoraví Protected Landscape Area.

St. Martin and the village’s monuments

The parish Church of St. Martin is first mentioned in the Land Tables in 1481. In 1619, it was rebuilt by the landowner of the time. Its tower dates from the first half of the 16th century, while the nave features Renaissance decorations and portals. The church thus brings together several historical layers in one place. For a cultural tour of Měrotín, it is one of the most prominent fixed points of reference.

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary, built in 1843, stands on the village square. Other architectural monuments in Měrotín include the Baroque rectory dating from 1772. The Baroque character of the rectory complements the church’s Renaissance forms with a later stylistic period. A wayside statue on the route to Parduska is considered the oldest monument in Měrotín.

Protected landscape and Geologické varhany

The Litovelské Pomoraví Protected Landscape Area forms the scenic setting for the cadastral area of Měrotín. The Geologické varhany near Měrotín are a special geotourism attraction and are also considered a geotope. The geological formations are located in the former Brodka limestone quarry between Mladeč and Měrotín. For travel planning purposes, the site is considered accessible by car without access restrictions; the access road comes within 250 metres, while the former quarry itself is considered closed. This distinction is important when planning: the geological attraction and the former extraction site should not be treated as having the same level of accessibility.

Parduska: views and orientation

From Parduska Hill southeast of Měrotín, there are views across the Haná region towards the Jeseníky Mountains and over the Bouzovská vrchovina uplands. A local trail marker leads from the bench and the wayside statue above Měrotín to the summit of Parduska. Those who do not want to admire the landscape only from a distance will find a specifically marked route as well as another way to explore the historical traces around the village.

Local tradition

A local event is also part of Měrotín’s distinctive character: the SDH Měrotín Volunteer Fire Brigade traditionally organizes the Memoriál Josefa Vitoula.
