Bílá Lhota – Arboretum, Nature and Culture along the Morava

Bílá Lhota lies in the floodplain of the Morava River, characterized by meadows and floodplain forests. The Hrabůvka stream flows through Bílá Lhota and the arboretum before joining the Morava. Thus, the village brings together river floodplain, woodland and cultural history.

Arboretum and Special Nature

The Bílá Lhota Arboretum is a national nature monument on a south-facing slope and covers just under three hectares. Around 300 different species and cultivars of woody plants give the site its botanical distinction. The park was opened to the public in 1968 under the name Arboretum in Bílé Lhotě. Its history is therefore one of the defining features of the village.

Another natural feature is the Bílá Lhota Nature Monument. It is located in the attic space of a church in the cadastral area of Bílá Lhota and protects a habitat of the greater mouse-eared bat (Myotis myotis). Bílá Lhota is also home to a very important summer colony of this species. Alongside the arboretum, bat conservation is therefore an independent theme of the municipality.

The Agricultural Exhibition Zemědělská expozice features a carriage from the early 20th century and a Burco machine for making straw ropes. It also includes herb beds with several dozen medicinal plants and a large sandbox for children. “Velikonoce v Arboretu” is also of interest to families: the annual Easter event offers willow-branch weaving, children’s workshops, archery, birds of prey and sheep. The Church of St. Catherine is listed as a protected heritage property of the municipality; Bílá Lhota Château is a local monument dating from the early 19th century.

The regional cycling tour “Od hradu do podzemí – z Bouzova do jeskyní” follows Cycle Route 512 through Podolí and Hrabí to Bílá Lhota. The Jesenec–Bouzov–Bílá Lhota tourist route is 22.5 km long, moderately difficult and includes 305 metres of elevation gain. The two routes have different focuses: the cycling tour connects several places with Bílá Lhota as its destination, while the tourist route provides a defined profile for tour planning. This allows you to choose between a regional connection and a clearly delineated sporting route for a day trip.
