Discover Rokytnice: Castle, Bečva and Haná

Rokytnice is located in the Upper Morava Valley and in the ethnographic region of Haná. The town combines a distinctive cultural heritage with river and woodland landscapes, as well as routes for a variety of activities. When planning a stay, you can therefore choose between different focuses, including the history of the castle, the regional landscape and cycling connections, without reducing Rokytnice to a single attraction.

Castle, Church and Local History

Rokytnice Castle is a three-winged, two-storey High Baroque building. The castle complex is accessible during the day and borders an extensive park. Together with St. James’s Church, the adjacent park, the nursery and the former farm buildings, the castle forms an ensemble listed as a cultural monument. During a visit, the building, park and ensemble can be explored together; the church, nursery and former farm buildings broaden the view beyond the castle building itself.

The history of the routes also gives Rokytnice a distinctive sense of historical depth. As early as 1086, the historic Hradská road ran around or through what would become Rokytnice; it connected the castle-district centres of Olomouc and Přerov. Another cultural point of interest is the Josef Eichhoff Fire Brigade Museum. It was created through the complete reconstruction of a former fire station dating from 1905. The reconstruction keeps the building’s former function as a fire station present in the local history. Visits are possible on weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. by prior telephone arrangement. The opening hours and telephone booking provide a clear time frame for a museum visit.

Bečva, Woodlands and Routes

The Moravian Bečva River is approximately 600 metres from Rokytnice at its closest point. Along the Bečva and in the northern cadastral area of Rokytnice towards Kokory, there are wooded areas; along the river, these consist predominantly of deciduous trees. Dolek is a small woodland planted with deciduous and coniferous trees in the northern cadastral area of Rokytnice. This means that the areas near the river, predominantly characterised by deciduous trees, and Dolek offer different landscape impressions. This distinction provides guidance when choosing a landscape focus.

Cycling and Planning Your Stay

The Bečva Cycle Path runs through Rokytnice and is intended not only for cyclists but also for inline skaters, hikers and cross-country skiers. In addition, Cycle Route 5042 Prostějov–Věrovany–Citov–Přerov runs through the municipality of Rokytnice. West of the built-up area, it follows Road III/43515 and then continues along local and designated-purpose routes. The Bečva Cycle Path thus combines use by cyclists with facilities for inline skaters, hikers and cross-country skiers. Route 5042 has a different focus: it runs through the municipality along a road as well as local and designated-purpose routes.

This allows you to combine culture, river and woodland landscapes, and different modes of transport when planning your trip.
