Annín – Discover Lakes, Trails and Culture

Annín combines a distinctive lake landscape with local history and trails leading into the area around Tovačov. The most characteristic feature is Lake Annínské: it is one of the four independent bodies of water in the Tovačovská jezera system. This makes Annín a place where nature observation, historical discoveries and excursions of varying lengths can be combined.

A Lake Landscape with Its Own Character

Swimming is permitted at your own risk in the designated area of Lake Annínské. This regulation is one of the lake’s specific features and should be taken into account when planning your day. European beavers also inhabit the lakes around Annín. Those who want to experience the landscape from more than just the water will therefore also find an indication of the wildlife associated with this lake area.

A second lake also reveals something about the formation of today’s landscape. Today’s Lake Skašovský is a remnant area created by intensive gravel and sand extraction in the second half of the 20th century. The bodies of water around Annín are therefore not merely a uniform natural feature: Lake Annínské is part of a system of four independent bodies of water, while Lake Skašovský owes its present form to a later history of extraction.

Chapel, Settlement and Historical Traces

The most distinctive landmark of Annín is the Chapel of Saint Anne. It is listed as a cultural monument in Tovačov II–Annín and has a painted ceiling above the altar. This combination of a clearly recognizable landmark on the outside and a special interior detail makes the chapel an independent cultural destination, not merely a name in the town’s history.

The settlement structure itself is also part of the character of the place. The Annín housing colony was founded in 1799. Part of the historic center still preserves a clearly defined linear village layout. For visitors who want to understand the development of a place in addition to exploring lakes and trails, the appeal therefore lies not only in individual sights: the history is also visible in the traditional form of the townscape.

Trails to Annín and the Surrounding Area

There are several specific starting points for planning routes. Behind the Tovačov bus station, the Moravská stezka branches off onto the road to Annín and Lobodice. Another connection begins behind the water mill in Tovačov: from there, a green-marked hiking trail leads towards Annín. After crossing the road, this hiking trail continues to the dam of the Skašovské reservoir.

This makes it possible to compare different excursion ideas without assuming specific distances or travel times. The trails connect Annín with historical and scenic points in the surrounding area, while the lake landscape itself offers a different focus. Those traveling with several generations or with different interests can therefore choose between water, local history, a marked hiking trail and a thematic exploration of the past.

This exploration includes the nearby educational trail “In the Footsteps of the Battle of Tovačov 1866”. It includes a sandstone pyramid for an unknown Austrian soldier at the dam of Lake Skašovské. The educational trail adds a specific historical connection to the landscape and makes the dam a destination where the natural environment and commemorative culture meet.
