Žákovice between Village History and the Moštěnka

Žákovice combines a clearly recognizable village structure with water, religious buildings, local traditions and a cycling route through the village. The Moštěnka is Žákovice’s main watercourse and flows from east to west through the village. At the same time, the village’s history reaches far back: Žákovice has been documented since 1293. Those who would like to combine their stay with regional culture and tranquil discoveries will find several specific points of interest here.

The character of the village is particularly evident in its center. It has a triangular layout and is lined with rows of farmsteads. The bell tower is the defining structure of this center. This gives you a direct impression of the historic settlement structure, without the village’s history being reduced to just a date. The wayside shrine along one of the roads is also one of Žákovice’s local landmarks.

Chapels, a Mill and Protected Nature

One of the notable points above the village is a 17th-century chapel, which is one of Žákovice’s local landmarks. Another chapel is dedicated to Saint Nicholas. It was built in the 18th century and stands in a lime-tree grove at a crossroads near Žákovice. The two structures date from different centuries, adding a historical perspective to the village.

The landscape also has its own special features. On a hill in a grove near Žákovice’s recreational area stands a small-leaved lime tree protected as a natural monument. There is also a water mill with a small hydroelectric power plant in the eastern part of Žákovice. Cycling and Recreation in the Village

The Záhorská Cycling Route runs through Žákovice. It leads towards Lipník nad Bečvou in one direction and towards Bystřice pod Hostýnem in the other. In addition, Žákovice has a sports and recreational area with a football pitch and a multi-purpose court.

Local Traditions and Shared Experiences

A special combination of customs and village life is Vodění medvěda, a recurring local masked procession held during the Carnival season in Žákovice. From spring to autumn, members of TJ Žákovice have held a Monday gathering under the pergola since 2011. Visitors can enjoy refreshments as well as grilled or smoked specialties. Thus, in addition to historic buildings and the landscape, recurring community events are also part of Žákovice’s distinctive character.
