Rybí – Landscape, Educational Trail and Historic Routes

Rybí combines a protected hilly landscape with traces of regional history and an educational trail that brings art and nature together. You can experience this character particularly vividly on the Adolf Zábranský Educational Trail: Ten information-board stations are dedicated to the life, work and illustrations of the painter and illustrator Adolf Zábranský. The walking trail leads through the landscape that inspired him and offers views of the hilly landscape of the Podbeskydí Nature Park.

Landscape in the Podbeskydí Nature Park

Rybí lies almost entirely within the Podbeskydí Nature Park. It was designated in 1994 to protect the character of the landscape as well as significant collective aesthetic and natural values. The cadastral area of Rybí also forms part of the Podbeskydí Geopark. This dual landscape classification shapes how the place is perceived: the surroundings represent not only individual viewpoints, but also a landscape designated as valuable.

The elevations with wide views include Holivák Hill. Parts of the hill are used for ski slopes. At Holivák, wide views and the partial use of the same landscape for ski slopes come together. The cadastral area of Rybí also forms part of the Libotín area; there is a valuable woodland stand there with ornithological significance.

Educational Trail, Hiking Tradition and History

Another way to get to know Rybí in its own context is the “Za pohledy z Rybí” tourist march, held annually in spring. It offers routes of 25 km, 13.5 km and 10 km, including a route suitable for prams. For children, the program includes a fairy-tale forest and an inflatable castle at the finish. The march thus combines different route lengths with special stations for younger participants, with these offerings being tied to this annual event.

The historic routes around Rybí also date back a long way. The Stations of the Cross was created in the 17th century and led from the outskirts of Nový Jičín through Rybí to Štramberk and Kotouč Hill. Seven masonry chapels remain from the original 14 stations. Two wayside chapels in Rybí also commemorate the former pilgrimage procession from Nový Jičín to the pilgrimage churches in Štramberk. This makes the connection between the places visible not only through the landscape, but also through religious and historical traditions.

Cultural Discoveries in Rybí

The village is home to the Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross, an early Gothic church from the second half of the 13th century that was later rebuilt. Together with the wayside chapels, the historic Stations of the Cross and the Adolf Zábranský Educational Trail, it creates a diverse picture of Rybí: You can explore regional history, get to know an artist and the landscape that inspired him, or discover the designated natural and cultural landscape along a variety of routes.
