Accommodation in Raškovice
Raškovice between river valleys and the Beskids
Raškovice lies in the valleys of the Morávka and Mohelnice rivers and is surrounded by the mountains of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids. As a result, the area brings together landscapes, regional history, and routes to special cultural monuments. Those looking for a place with changing impressions during their stay will find in Raškovice both a distinctive local history and several routes with different characteristics.
Ethnographic heritage and historical traces
The Raškovice Memorial offers a permanent ethnographic exhibition year-round, as well as further exhibitions and programmes aimed at reviving old customs and activities. A visit therefore focuses not only on individual objects but also on traditional ways of life. Traditional farming and weaving were part of Raškovice’s historical livelihood.
The first written mention of Raškovice dates from 1261. Another historical trace can be found in the centre: the Chapel of the Virgin Mary by the chateau is located near the former château and was probably built around the middle of the 19th century. These two points of reference connect the older history of the town with a specific building in today’s town centre, without reducing Raškovice to a single era. The chapel is therefore one of the town’s more recent historical points of reference, while its documented history reaches back to 1261.
Routes to small sacred monuments
Several routes lead to the small sacred monuments, differing mainly in length, starting points, and course. The central route is approximately 2 km long and runs from the wayside niche chapel “U Vepřeků” to the “Adámková kaple” chapel. It thus provides a clearly defined connection between two stops. The routes differ specifically in their length: the central route is shorter, while the southern route also includes a fairly steep ascent.
The southern route is approximately 3 to 4 km long and runs between Foldynův kříž and Heřmanův kříž. It leads from Šebestova kříže “Na Suché” along the old “Krásenské ceště” towards Husinec and includes a fairly steep ascent. Those comparing the routes should take this difference in route character into account. The western route is 3 to 4 km long and leads from the wayside shrine “U Durčáka” to Muroňova kaple on the border with the neighbouring municipality of Skalice.
Another option is the route to the wooden Church of Saint Anthony of Padua on Prašivá: six routes lead there from Raškovice, the shortest of which is 5.5 km long. This makes it possible to combine the town’s history with various landscape and sacred destinations, without all the routes having the same starting point or length.
