Krmelín – History, Views and Trails
Accommodation in Krmelín
Discover Krmelín: History with Expansive Views
Krmelín combines an accessible local history with a viewpoint and marked trails. This makes the town interesting if you do not view cultural discoveries in isolation, but want to combine them with an active day out. The first written reference to Krmelín dates from 9 January 1447. According to the 1447 feudal record, the town’s subsequent history remained permanently connected with the history of Paskov.
Churches, Crosses and a Chapel
An important landmark in the town’s history is the Church of St. John and Paul. Construction began in 1895; it was completed and solemnly consecrated several years later, on 1 July 1900, by the Dean of Ostrava, P. Špička. The church is a single-nave longitudinal building with a gabled roof. A prismatic tower with a pyramidal roof stands on the axis of the front façade. These clearly definable architectural features make this religious building a worthwhile destination for anyone who also pays attention to architecture when visiting a town.
Further historical monuments can be found along Krmelín’s roads. The oldest stone cross in the town stands on Světlovská Street beside Road I/58 and dates from 1828. The Lyčka Chapel, dating from 1870, is located on Proskovická Street. The Brožův Cross adds to this small group of religious monuments: it is a cast-iron cross set on a sandstone pedestal with late Classicist ornamentation. The year 1858 is inscribed on the back of the pedestal.
Krmelínský kopec and the Trails Through the Town
Krmelínský kopec reaches 332 metres above sea level and is the highest point in the cadastral area of the municipality of Krmelín. Its summit bears a cross and offers views of Ostrava and the Beskids. This viewpoint creates a distinct landscape accent alongside the town’s historic buildings: you can focus your visit more on architecture and local history or on views across the surrounding area.
Krmelín is also part of a specific cycle route. The 66-kilometre Radhošťská Trail leads from Bělský les in Ostrava through Stará and Nová Bělá, Krmelín, Mošnov, Příbor, Mniší, Tichá and Frenštát to Pustevny or Radhošť. If you are looking for accommodation in Krmelín, you can therefore consider whether combining your stay with such a longer cycle tour suits your plans. A green-marked hiking route also passes through Krmelín. In addition to the buildings and monuments that can be visited, there is therefore also a clearly designated route for hiking.
Getting There and Choosing Accommodation
Krmelín can be reached by train via the nearest stations at Paskov, Frýdek-Místek or Ostrava. There are also bus connections to Ostrava and Frýdek-Místek. When looking for accommodation in Krmelín, you can therefore first consider which aspect is most important for your stay: the church and the town’s smaller monuments, the viewpoint on Krmelínský kopec, or the connection to the Radhošťská Trail and the green-marked hiking route. The verified local facts provide several clearly distinguishable options, without requiring you to commit to just one way of exploring the area.
