Kaňovice between memorial sites and nature trails

Kaňovice combines small historic buildings in the village landscape with paths leading to the Lunčiska Biocentre and Kamenec Pond. The cultural sites are not located in a single place: the park in front of the municipal office, Road II/473, and the areas of Zádolí and Závrší form separate stops. This means that a stay brings memorial sites and a nature route together.

Chapels, crosses and a memorial in the village landscape

A central memorial site is located in the park in front of the municipal office. There stands a memorial to the victims of the First and Second World Wars. Along Road II/473, you will encounter two other distinctive structures: a brick chapel built in 1893 and a stone cross from 1933. Both stand beside the road and are therefore visible landmarks in the village.

There is also a stone cross in Zádolí, dating from 1924. In Závrší, there is a brick chapel that is among the architecturally valuable buildings in Kaňovice. Next to Mrs Karasová’s house, there is also a cross dedicated to Saint Florian. An architecturally and historically valuable building is also a timber-frame house. Together, these sites do not form one large sightseeing complex, but rather several independent reasons to explore Kaňovice attentively.

Hiking trails and nature at Kamenec Pond

For the scenic side of Kaňovice, a hiking route leads to the Lunčiska Biocentre. Another destination is Kamenec Pond. There, a covered wooden shelter with seating provides a place to relax and observe nature. Around the pond, information boards with illustrations of animals and details about the pond provide information about the surroundings.

The circular route to Kamenec Pond begins at the bus stop for route 383 “Kaňovice, točna”. There are parking facilities and a shelter at this starting point. A hike from Kaňovice to Kamenec Pond includes a 1.4 km section. The starting point with the bus stop, parking facilities and shelter is part of the circular route at Kamenec; the route to the Lunčiska Biocentre remains separate from it.

A 164-metre-long shared pedestrian and cycle path was also completed in Kaňovice to provide access to a bus stop. It enables safer access to the stop. The figure of 164 metres refers to this pedestrian and cycle path, while the figure of 1.4 km refers to the section leading to Kamenec Pond. Although the circular route to the pond also starts at a bus stop, it includes a longer hiking section. The pedestrian and cycle path and the hike to the pond therefore describe two different routes with different destinations.
