Rynoltice: Hiking, Nature and Baroque Culture

Rynoltice combines marked hiking trails, distinctive sandstone formations and a Baroque church with an organ featuring 16 stops. This makes the town a starting point for a variety of discoveries: you can explore routes through the town’s districts and across rock formations, discover protected landscapes or explore historical details in Rynoltice.

Hiking Trails with Various Starting Points

Five marked tourist hiking trails pass through the municipality of Rynoltice. The green hiking trail 1 begins at Rynoltice railway station and runs together with cycle route 25 as far as Jítrava. This makes it possible to link a section of the route specifically with the railway station and the destination of Jítrava. The blue hiking trail crosses the Polesí district of Rynoltice and passes the Havran rock formation there.

Another option is the hike “Po hřbetech slonů”. It begins in Rynoltice on a road signposted CT 25. From Sloní Kameny, a red-marked trail leads to Jítrava; a green-marked hiking trail then leads back to Rynoltice.

Protected Landscapes and Unusual Rocks

The Velký Vápenný Nature Reserve protects original maple-beech forests at summit level and flower-rich beech forests on Devonian limestone. The area also includes a former quarry and karst features such as underground spaces, ponors and a spring. A ponor is a place where water disappears underground. The combination of forest, limestone and these formations makes Velký Vápenný a distinctive natural theme within the hiking landscape.

Bílé Kameny is a protected natural monument within the Lužické hory Protected Landscape Area. Weathering has shaped the sandstone there into rounded, mushroom-shaped and almost spherical forms. Several pseudokarst cavities and small caves were formed through weathering and the erosion of coarse-grained sandstone layers.

St. Barbara: History with a Musical Detail

The chapel built in Rynoltice in 1669 was converted into the Baroque Church of St. Barbara between 1745 and 1748. Its furnishings include an organ with 16 stops. In addition to its architectural history, the church therefore offers a specific detail for anyone wishing to combine historic architecture and musical tradition during their stay.

Cycling and Practical Orientation

A shared path for pedestrians and cyclists was built in Rynoltice in the direction of the cemetery. This section is the first stage of a planned cycle route intended to connect Rynoltice with Jablonné v Podještědí. Its planned status remains important: what is described is the proposed connection, not an already completed entire route.
