Wilkowitz – Circular Village Layout, Mineral Spring and Cycle Route No. 3

Wilkowitz, known as Vlkovice in Czech, is a place where village structure, railway history and the landscape come together to create a diverse travel experience. On that day, the first two trains of the Karlovy Vary railway line, travelling from opposite directions, crossed paths at the festively decorated station in Vlkovice. The VLKOVICKÝ TUNEL is also part of the village's railway history. It is 240 metres long and lies on the railway ascent from Mariánské Lázně to Vlkovice. Thus, a historic station experience and a specific section of the railway line come together. Slavkovský les and the Křovištní kyselka Mineral Spring

Vlkovice lies in the Slavkovský les Protected Landscape Area. One specific natural destination is Křovištní kyselka, a mineral spring in Vlkovice that can be reached via a footpath. At its surface, a distinct bubbling of carbon dioxide with numerous bubbles can be observed. The path and the observation belong to two different levels of the experience: on the one hand, the discovery leads to a specific destination; on the other, the protected-area character of Slavkovský les remains present as the landscape setting. This creates an excursion that brings the spring and the landscape together. The visible movement of the water adds a vivid detail to observing nature.

Cycle Route through Meadows and Forests

The orange-marked Cycle Route No. 3 passes through Vlkovice, is 21 kilometres long and is recommended for mountain bikes. Before reaching Vlkovice, it runs through meadows and forests in the southern part of the Slavkovský les Protected Landscape Area. The 21-kilometre distance can be taken into account when planning an active day, while the recommendation for mountain bikes clarifies the intended character of the route. Those who want to combine cycling with exploring the landscape will find a route connecting open meadows, stretches of forest and the village destination. In addition, Úšovice Road now serves as a shortcut for cyclists and pedestrians. This provides both a longer cycling loop and a shorter connection through the village for getting around.

A Children's Fishing Event Held on a Specific Date

Vlkovická rybka was a children's fishing event held at the Vlkovice pond on 7 September 2024, and at that time it took place for the second time. The children's fishing event complements the topics of village history, landscape and cycling with a local event related to children.
