Discover Voitersreuth: Cycling Routes, Nature Conservation and Rural Cultural Heritage

Voitersreuth, called Vojtanov in Czech, combines cycling opportunities with an unusual rural local history and a nature reserve. For planning your trip, this does not result in a single, uniform excursion program, but rather a selection of different focal points: you can follow routes between several different landscapes, discover historic farmsteads and the history of former crafts, or consider the locality as a starting point for further research in West Bohemia.

Cycling between Český les and Krušné hory

The local cycling route 2065 begins at an intersection in the center of Vojtanov, where it connects to cycling route 36. Its route leads from Vojtanov via Hazlov to Polná. The route is 9 km long; with detours, it is 14 km. The shorter route limits the scope of the tour, while additional detours allow for longer planning with more time.

The National Cycling Route 23 is also connected to the local cycling network. It passes through Vojtanov at kilometer 17 and is linked to local cycling route 2065 on the outskirts of the locality. At its connection with route 2065, cycling route 36 connects Český les with Krušné hory.

Rural local history with its own distinctive features

Vojtanov has a clustered arrangement of farmsteads without a central village square. This structure distinguishes the locality from a settlement whose history would have developed around a traditional village center. Its architectural heritage includes rural property No. 12, a protected cultural monument dating from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Rural property No. 14 was declared a cultural monument in 1992/93.

The religious and economic past is also unusual. Historically, Vojtanov never had a church, parish house or cemetery; its inhabitants belonged to the parish in Horní Lomany. A mill called “The Village Mill” formerly stood on the Vonšovský potok. These details make the local history particularly interesting for visitors who are not only looking for individual sights but also want to understand the development of a rural locality.

Nature Reserve and Railway History

The U Sedmi rybníků Nature Reserve is located in Vojtanov and complements the historical and sporting points of interest with a protected landscape.

The railway connection between Cheb and Reichenbach in Germany also contributed to the development of Vojtanov. It led to the construction of the Nádražní čtvrť district east of the original Vojtanov. The Vojtanov město stop is located on the Cheb–Vojtanov–Aš railway line.
