Technical Heritage and Ecclesiastical Architectural Heritage

One particularly striking testimony to the region’s mining history is Dlouhá stoka. The 24-kilometre water canal was built in 1536 to transport water and timber in support of mining. Today, Dlouhá stoka is both an important technical monument and a national cultural monument. For a trip focused on historic landscapes, this structure combines the history of engineering with a tangible understanding of how mining shaped the surrounding area.

The present-day Church of St Catherine of Alexandria stands in Krásno. It was built in 1858–1859 in the Neo-Romanesque style on the remains of a medieval church that had burnt down. The complex also includes a medieval bell tower, which is a cultural monument. The church and the former cemetery were declared cultural monuments in 2025. Outside of services, the town of Krásno, as the owner of the property, must be contacted to arrange a visit.

Cycling between the Canal and Český les

Cycling route 2135 from Krásno is 38 kilometres long, has a moderate difficulty level and is suitable for touring bikes and mountain bikes. It runs from Krásno via Prameny and Kladská to the edge of Český les, where it joins route 2137. The route approaches Dlouhá stoka and runs along the canal for several kilometres. This makes it possible to combine an active excursion with one of the region’s most important technical monuments.

Protected Moorlands and Landscapes

Krásenské rašeliniště is the largest raised bog in Slavkovský les. It lies in the first protection zone; unauthorised access is prohibited. This information is essential for your planning, as the landscape cannot be entered freely. Slavkovský les also encompasses extensive peat bogs, species-rich wet and marsh meadows, unique serpentine flora, heathland, numerous mineral springs and mofettes, preserved beech forests, and the valleys of the meandering Teplá and Ohře rivers with remarkable rock formations.

Mining and Views from Krásenský vrch

The Hornické muzeum Krásno is located on the site of the historic Vilém tin mine. The preserved complex includes a processing building, workshops, a headframe, a hoisting building, an engine house and a gatehouse. From May to October, you can ride a mine train there along a route through a model mine gallery.

Another striking destination is Krásenská rozhledna, a 25-metre-high stone observation tower south of Krásno on Krásenský vrch. Its unusual external spiral staircase leads to the observation platform. The tower was built during the global economic crisis in the 1930s.
