Königswerth: History, Crafts and Easy Routes
Königswerth can be discovered through historical traces, traditional crafts and routes for cyclists and walkers. The Church of St. Kunhuta, Statek Bernard and activities on the water give your stay different focal points: you can delve deeper into cultural history, choose an easy route or plan an active family day.
Historical Traces and Mining History
The existence of the Church of St. Kunhuta is documented as early as 1240. Its Baroque reconstruction preserved rare Romanesque-Gothic elements from the church’s earliest architectural history. The Seebohm Villa was built by the Britannia mining company in 1909 and 1910. At Statek Bernard, reconstruction in 2005 and 2006 enabled the establishment of a centre for traditional crafts. The farm complex at Statek Bernard was built in the traditional Cheb half-timbered style and is located next to the disused Bernard mine. The landscape is shaped by open-pit mines and lignite.
Crafts to Watch and Try
At the SVITSOL Gallery and Workshop in Královské Poříčí, scented candles are made and decorated by hand. At the farm in Královské Poříčí, SVITSOL offers practical courses on making your own candles and soaps for families, schools, corporate teams and tourists. The 14th Poříčská pouť was announced there for 13 September 2025; children’s carousels, the Divadlo Z bedny theatre, craft workshops and other attractions were planned.
Cycling and Informative Walks
Different types of routes are available for planning your day. Cyklostezka Ohře 2 is a flat, easy, 19 km asphalt route from Kynšperk railway station to Královské Poříčí railway station. Statek Bernard is about 1 km from the Ohře cycling route. The Královské Poříčí educational trail presents the town’s history, present and sights, as well as the region’s mining past. It is considered an easy circular route of about 3.5 km with 14 stops and information boards. The options therefore differ clearly in terms of route type, length and thematic focus.
An Easy Paddling Tour to Loket
A full-day, easy 6 km paddling tour to Loket starts at the campsite in Královské Poříčí. It is also suitable for beginners and families with children. If you would like to combine water, exercise and a shared outing, this tour adds another active focus to the cultural and land-based experiences.
