Cross-country skiing and an unusual themed route

The Březová cross-country ski trail system comprises 17 km of trails. This provides a clear focus for winter activities during your trip. The length of the system also provides a specific figure for planning a day, while the other landscape and cultural attractions leave room for changing up your experiences. The educational trail “Zaniklé obce Březovska” offers a different perspective. It is 63.5 km long in total, is primarily suitable for pedestrians and cyclists, and leads through 18 villages that have partially or completely disappeared. The route combines physical activity with the history of settlements whose former structures are now only partially visible. Unlike the cross-country ski trails, the focus here is not on winter sports, but on the connection between the path, the landscape and vanished places. The total length indicates the scope of the entire educational trail, not the duration of a single excursion. For planning your days, this scope sets a different benchmark from the 17-kilometre cross-country ski trail system; it alone does not imply a specific length of stay. The 18 villages differ in their present-day condition: some have only partially disappeared, while others have disappeared completely.

Culture, views and historic traces

One of the prominent cultural attractions is the Chapel of St. Mary Magdalene, a landmark of Kamenice. A viewpoint in its surroundings offers views of the Sokolovsko and Chebsko regions, Lake Medard and some areas of nearby Germany. A visit to the chapel can therefore be combined with a broad landscape panorama.

Kostelní Bříza also offers various historical points of interest. The late Baroque Church of St. Peter and Paul is one of the village’s most significant monuments. The fortification there has a diameter of 18–20 metres. One provides a religious focus, while the other has a defensive character.

Cultural attractions and protected landscape

For an addition to outdoor excursions, there is the Kulturní dům a Multifunkční centrum Březová in Březová u Sokolova. The renovated multipurpose cultural and social facility includes the Admira digital cinema. It also has an outdoor amphitheatre. The venue therefore combines a digital cinema with a cultural space under the open sky. The centre broadens the perspective on Březová with a cultural facility that is not tied to a single historic monument.

Březovsko forms the northern part of the Slavkovský les Protected Landscape Area. This protected landscape provides the setting for paths through the countryside and for the historic attractions in the villages.
