Dallwitz: Castle Park, Cultural Monuments and Historic Paths

Dallwitz combines tangible cultural history with paths through park landscapes and botanical highlights. Between fortress remains, castles, the Dalovice educational trail and the Ohře Valley, a destination emerges that offers you various ways to explore: historic traces, short circular routes, viewpoints and freely accessible natural attractions.

Cultural History in a Compact Area

Since 1958, the Dalovice Castle Park, the New Castle and the bust of K. T. Körner have formed a registered immovable cultural monument under registration number 38621/7-779. At Tvrziště, you can see the remains of a Gothic fortress and the foundations of a square residential tower presented in situ, that is, at their original excavation site. Excavations there uncovered Neolithic pottery dating from around 5,000 BC, as well as other small finds from various periods up to the modern era.

The Starý zámek also bears witness to changing construction phases: it began as a Renaissance fortress from the early 16th century and was converted into a pseudo-Baroque castle after a fire in 1899. The pseudo-Romanesque Church of “Panny Marie Utěšitelky” was built in 1929; its vestibule is the former parish chapel. Another historical accent is provided by the Dalovice porcelain factory, which increasingly expanded its production, originally focused on stoneware, to include porcelain manufacturing from around 1830 onward.

Castle Park, Botanical Garden and Viewpoints

The Dalovice Botanical Garden comprises a collection of the regional flora of the Karlovarský kraj with around 170 plant species, as well as a collection of 40 species of field-grown agricultural crops. The regional flora and cultivated plants represent two different focal points: observing nature and viewing agriculturally cultivated plant populations add a second perspective to the historical tour. The garden is freely accessible to the public and complements the historic sights with a visit focused directly on nature.

In the castle park, a viewing pavilion offers a view of the Ohře Valley and Drahovice, a district of Karlovy Vary. The protected Körner Oak also stands there; its age is estimated at 700 to 900 years. The oak is freely accessible. This allows you to include the park, the viewpoint and an exceptionally old natural monument in your day’s itinerary without focusing exclusively on architectural history.

Circular Routes and a Specific Hike

The Dalovice educational trail has two circular routes. The longer one passes all ten stations, while the shorter one skips one station and runs through the town center. The two options help you plan your visit according to the desired duration. A yellow-marked hiking route also leads to the Körner Oak from the main post office; the hike of approximately 3.1 kilometers takes around 47 minutes.
