Schömitz opens up several ways to experience a trip: unusual rock formations, river landscapes, cycling and traces of history. Particularly striking are Šemnická skála, the “Kamenné stádo” on the Ohře and Skalky skřítků. The landscape is complemented by local Cycle Route 2249 and the stone chapel of Šemnice. Unusual Stone Formations

Šemnická skála is a phonolite hill with unusually shaped rocks and other geomorphological features. The hill therefore represents a landscape whose appeal lies not only in a single rock, but in the variety of its forms. The Kamenné stádo on the Ohře

The “Kamenné stádo” is much more strongly shaped by water. In the bed of the Ohře below Karlovy Vary, quartzite and granite blocks form this formation. Particularly well-developed potholes can be found in the rapids between Muzikov and Dubina. Whirling water has washed the depressions into the blocks. This landscape feature therefore introduces a vivid natural theme into trip planning: not only the rocks themselves, but also the force of the river determines its appearance.

Skalky skřítků

Skalky skřítků presents a different geological motif. The area includes pseudokarst cavities formed in volcanic breccia. Skalky skřítků belongs to the municipality of Šemnice and is freely accessible. This offers you a clearly distinct destination: cavities in the rock instead of the open hilltop of Šemnická skála or the water-shaped blocks on the Ohře.

Cycle Route 2249 and the Ohře

Cycle Route 2249 is available for cycling; it is classified as moderately difficult. Its route passes through Dubina, Šemnice u Mostu and Pulovice. The route thus provides a specific connection between several place names and creates its own focus alongside observing rocks and the river. If you are planning an active day, the “moderately difficult” classification provides the key guidance.

Paddlers also have their own starting point in Šemnice: Šemnice is a suitable access point for paddlers travelling in groups by boat on the Ohře. This information draws attention to a group activity on the river and complements the cycling and geology options with another form of travel.

A Historic Trace Along the Way

The stone chapel of Šemnice provides a historical trace. It was built in 1826 at a crossroads on the western edge of Šemnice. Today, only the foundation wall remains of the surrounding masonry; it is completely overgrown with dense vegetation.
