Velehrádek between Cycle Route, Nature and History

Velehrádek combines a cycle route running through the area with geological formations, ponds and historical traces. Cycle Route No. 4271 leads through Velehrádek and Lanžov onwards to Velký Vřešťov. This gives the place several different contexts: as a location on a cycle route, as a landscape with protected sandstone formations and forest ponds, and as a place where former structures live on in later traces.

Geological Formations at Čertovy hrady

A distinctive natural landmark is Čertovy hrady. The site is a protected area of a geological nature and covers weathered Perské and Koryčanské sandstones over an area of 1 ha. The geological significance therefore lies in the rocks themselves and in their surface form. The focus here is on sandstone and its visible structures.

Bowl-shaped depressions formed by water erosion on the highest rocks of Čertovy hrady. The hollows are thus directly connected with the highest rock areas and form part of their visible shape. Water has carved a specific structure into the sandstone at this site. It is precisely the combination of the type of rock, the protected area and the recognizable erosion formation that gives Čertovy hrady its distinctive character.

The Three Zátluky Ponds

The three Zátluky Ponds create a different impression from the rocks. Two of the three ponds lie in a quiet forest setting. At Zátluky, the focus is therefore on water amid the forest, while Čertovy hrady is characterized by weathered sandstone and the depressions formed by water erosion.

Two of the three Zátluky Ponds are easily accessible from the main road via convenient forest paths and are considered places for relaxation. The paths lead through the forest surroundings to the ponds. This part of Velehrádek therefore combines a quiet landscape with a practical way to reach the ponds from the main road.

Historical Traces at Two Locations

There was once a fortress in Zátluky. A pavilion was later built at its approximate location and was recently restored. The pavilion is not the former fortress, but a later structure at its approximate site. Its recent restoration belongs to the more recent history of this place, while the fortress belongs to its earlier history.

A cellar belonging to Velehrádek Fortress has survived beneath the present-day Building No. 1. The historical trace here lies in the cellar preserved beneath the current building. The cellar belongs to the former fortress, while Building No. 1 belongs to the present-day structure of the locality. Thus, part of the fortress's history has been preserved here, even though a complete fortress complex is not visible.
