Kohoutov – Culture, Wetlands and Cycling Routes

Kohoutov is a destination for travelers who want to combine cultural history, unusual landscapes and outdoor activities. Cultural History and Local Tradition

The Nanebevzetí Panny Marie Church was originally built as a school chapel in 1752 and converted into a Baroque church in 1788. It has been protected as an immovable cultural monument since July 25, 1994. Its history thus combines the building’s former educational purpose with its later religious use, making it a distinctive cultural landmark in Kohoutov. Another historic site is the listed Baroque building of the former school No. 74. Today, it houses the Keramické studio Jarmily Tyrnerové. The reference to the former school remains part of the village’s character: the building represents both its former use and its present-day connection with ceramic art. The Lidová řemesla festival is also part of Kohoutov’s cultural profile. It takes place every year on the second Saturday in August. Editions held in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 are associated with the festival. Wetlands and Nature Trail

The wetlands in Kohoutov that have not yet been destroyed by land reclamation create an exceptional environment found in only a few places in the Czech Republic. Snowdrops begin to bloom in Kohoutov in March, adding an early seasonal highlight. The Naučná stezka hraničních kamenů nature trail leads from Kocbeře eastward to Kohoutov and is less than two kilometers long. At its stations, it covers settlement, the rule of Count Špork, and the forests and sandstone around Kocbeře. The landscape itself is therefore not the only focus: the trail combines observing nature with regional history and also identifies the topics you can expect along its stations.

Cycling Routes with Various Connections

Kohoutov is connected to several routes for cyclists. Cycling route 4322 begins in Kohoutov near the Nanebevzetí Panny Marie Church and leaves the municipality in the direction of Hajnice. Cycling route 4097 passes through Kohoutov and connects Choustníkovo Hradiště with Ratibořice. Cycling route 4117 also passes through Kohoutov and connects Heřmanice with Kocbeře. These three routes provide various geographical reference points for planning an active day. Route 4322 establishes a direct connection with the church and the direction of Hajnice, while routes 4097 and 4117 each place Kohoutov within connections between other Czech towns and villages.
