Spindlermühle – Winter sports, educational trails and culture in the Krkonoše Mountains

Špindlerův Mlýn combines winter sports in the Krkonoše Mountains with educational trails, historic paths and unusual insights into the region’s history. This allows you to vary your stay between active days in the snow, peaceful walks and cultural discoveries.

Winter sports and winter paths

The winter skiing offer includes the Medvědín, Svatý Petr, Hromovka, Terminál 1 and Horní Mísečky areas. The ski resorts offer groomed slopes of varying difficulty for beginners, families, experienced skiers and snowboarders. For cross-country skiing, there are groomed trails leading from Špindlerův Mlýn into the surrounding area and up to the ridges of the Krkonoše Mountains.

During the winter season, the ski bus network can be used to travel between the individual locations. Another winter activity is the toboggan run: it leads downhill from the Spindlerova Bouda chalet to the town; uphill travel is by bus, while the descent is made on rented sledges.

Educational trails with natural and regional history

Even when hiking, the choice of destination remains specific: the NS Labský důl educational trail is most easily reached from Špindlerův Mlýn via a blue-marked hiking trail. Along the way, the trail covers moraines, traces of a huge avalanche and an object described as the cauldron of the Celtic Druids.

The Hornická stezka is 1.4 km long and climbs 100 metres in elevation. Information panels explain the historical importance of mining in this area; the trail also passes the ruins of old mine galleries.

Čertova strouha is a 1.2 km educational trail with an exceptionally well-preserved historic flood-control structure. It contains 43 transverse and 194 longitudinal stone flood-control structures; the trail is accessible year-round. The section of Harrach's Trail between the White Bridge in Špindlerův Mlýn and the Labská Chalet is the oldest marked hiking route in the Krkonoše Mountains.

Culture between church and contemporary history

The Church of St Peter is a Neoclassical single-nave building dating from 1802 to 1807. Services, concerts, lectures and personal development programmes take place there.

The Cold War Museum is located in a former nuclear shelter beneath the Hotel Harmony in Špindlerův Mlýn and is open to the public. You can explore the bunker’s original furnishings and rooms independently or as part of a guided tour.

Peaceful paths for different kinds of days

Mlynářovy Okruhy pass through quiet areas of the town’s natural surroundings, away from heavily frequented roads, and are designed as walking routes for all age groups. This leaves room for a quieter part of the day alongside themed educational trails and historic destinations.
