Provodov-Šonov

Provodov-Šonov between Reservoir, Nature and History

Provodov-Šonov is considered a recreation and fishing centre near the Rozkoš Reservoir. The village offers services, dining, accommodation and sporting activities. At the reservoir, recreation and fishing go hand in hand. This gives the municipality several reasons to visit: you can focus your stay on the waterside landscape, cycling tours or historical discoveries.

Protected Landscape in the Kleny District

Dubno in Kleny provides a distinctive natural feature. The area comprises floodplain forest, meadows and the Zlíčský Pond and has been a nature reserve since 1956. Between the floodplain forest and meadows, the Zlíčský Pond adds an open expanse of water to the protected landscape. The combination of forest, open meadows and pond clearly distinguishes this landscape from the historical sites in Šonov and Dobenín.

Churches, Fortress and an 1866 Monument

In Šonov, the history of the former fortress recalls the village’s eventful past. Šonov Fortress was probably built before 1564 and demolished at the end of the 18th century. This cautious dating makes it clear that the focus here is not a fully preserved building, but a historical point of reference.

In Dobenín, the Church of Saint Wenceslas is one of the notable cultural sites. It was rebuilt in the early Gothic style; the reconstruction may date to 1325. Its structural features also show that it could provide protection from an enemy when necessary. In Šonov, the Protestant church, built in 1864, adds to the historical character of the village.

Another prominent place of remembrance is the monument to the VI Army Corps. It is considered the oldest monument to the War of 1866 and was erected in 1868. Together with the fortress history and the churches, it creates a cultural programme that is not limited to a single attraction, but connects different periods and functions.

Two Routes for Active Days

Several signposted routes for cyclists run through the districts and the surrounding area. The Cyklookruh Rozkoš passes through Šonov, Provodov, Šeřeč and Kleny. It is approximately 18.8 km long and takes about 1 hour and 12 minutes without breaks. In addition, the 35 km route “In the Footsteps of the Battles of the War of 1866” runs through Václavice, Šonov, Provodov, Kleny and Dubno. It is signposted with KČT route numbers 4018, 4055 and 4056.
