Heřmánkovice – Church, Trails and Janovičky

Heřmánkovice combines impressive Baroque culture with trails and winter sports experiences around Janovičky. All Saints: Baroque Architecture and Remarkable Details

The present-day Church of All Saints, Kostel Všech svatých in Czech, was built from 1722 to 1726 on the site of a wooden church dating from the 14th century. Together with its grounds, it is a national cultural monument. At the same time, it is considered an important Baroque building in the Broumovsko region and a landmark of Heřmánkovice and the surrounding landscape.

The design of the building also makes a visit special: the church is a striking example of High Baroque and Empire styles. Its architectural features include an elongated octagonal floor plan, a prismatic tower with rounded corners, a narrow presbytery and a sacristy. Inside, the ceiling painting opens up a view of the heavens; it is complemented by depictions of the four Evangelists and angels in elliptical wreaths. The ceiling painting was created in 1736 by the Broumov painter Johann Hausdorf.

In front of the church stands a Calvary group dating from around 1800. Two reconciliation crosses are located by the cemetery wall in Heřmánkovice. Another important point for planning your visit is the following: as part of the Open Churches 2026 programme, the tours of the Church of All Saints planned for August were cancelled because the start of reconstruction was announced for 1 August 2026.

Janovičky for Trails and Winter Sports

Another focus is Janovičky. Koupálo Janovičky is a sports complex between Heřmánkovice and Janovičky, located on the site of a former swimming pool. The Janovičky ski area offers more than one kilometre of artificially snow-covered ski slopes that are groomed daily. The facilities also include ski equipment rental, a ski school, a buffet, toilets and free parking.

Janovičky is not only interesting in winter. Sled dog races take place there every year. A blue-marked hiking trail also passes through Janovičky over the ridge of the Javoří Mountains to the Janovičky–Gluszyca tourist border crossing. For cycling tours, the Vyhlídkový přejezd Javořích hor route is relevant; it passes through Janovičky and Heřmánkovice.
