Natural area along the Bystřice

Kosičky is located northeast of Chlumec nad Cidlinou on the right bank of the Bystřice. The Bystřice serves as a geographical reference point; other natural and historical themes also shape the description of Kosičky. A particular point of reference is Třesický rybník: The pond was created before 1467 and covers 70 hectares.

In the southern to western part of Třesický rybník, refuges with diverse stands of bank vegetation have been preserved. They provide a habitat for several specially protected bird species. The meadows around the pond are regularly used for breeding by the critically endangered black-tailed godwit (Limosa limosa) and corn bunting (Miliaria calandra). Here, you can experience a landscape whose significance emerges not only from the size of the body of water, but also from its documented importance for birdlife.

Local history with unusual details

The village centre also makes Kosičky a destination for anyone who wants to combine nature experiences with history. The medieval and modern-era village centre is an area with documented or well-founded suspected archaeological finds. A particularly vivid example dates from 1936: During the repair of an arcaded passage, a coin hoard containing 171 coins from the time of George of Poděbrady and Vladislaus II was found in Kosičky.

The historic building stock includes the farmstead at No. 46. It is a preserved, high-quality example of a small agricultural farmstead from the second half of the 19th century. It was further remodelled at the beginning of the 20th century; it has survived as a coherent ensemble with a uniform façade design. This makes it possible to trace, through a single farmstead, how rural architecture can be preserved across several construction phases.

The history of the Bystřice was also shaped by mills. Until the end of the 19th century, three wooden mills stood in Kosičky: Divoký, Na hrázi, and U mostku. Hrázka in Luhy is considered the last surviving mill on the Bystřice. At the former site of Svatojánské lázně, there is also a spring that remains accessible.

A route through the landscape

If you would like to get to know Kosičky via a longer trail connection, a 7.7-kilometre weekday route connects Kosičky with Obědovice and runs via the Písníky and Třesický rybník. For this connection, bus services from Hradec Králové to Kosičky or to Písník were scheduled at 6:50 and 11:20, as well as via Chlumec nad Cidlinou at 9:40. The return journey from Obědovice to Hradec Králové was listed at 15:18, 16:10, or 17:10.
