Boharyně – Culture and Cycling Routes along the Bystřice

Boharyně and its district of Homyle lie on both banks of the Bystřice. The river is therefore a defining geographical feature of the area and connects several themes you can explore when planning your trip: historic buildings, waterways, nature and cycling routes. Boharyně is particularly interesting for anyone who does not view a smaller locality merely as a place to stay, but wants to discover its tangible traces and links to the surrounding landscape.

Church and Historical Features in the Townscape

The Baroque Church of St Bartholomew now defines the townscape of Boharyně. It was built in 1650 and remodelled in 1783. The building also has a distinctive ecclesiastical history: the church is a branch church and was previously a parish church. Thus, a single building reflects both the Baroque period in which it was created and the subsequent change in its function.

Other sights include the Boharyně mill complex. It was declared a cultural monument on 3 February 2003. Boharyně is home to a statue of St John of Nepomuk dating from 1808. The cemetery cross is also part of the area's history. It was restored in 1905 and consecrated on 27 August of the same year.

Water Landscape and Nature along the Bystřice

The Boharyně millrace runs along the eastern edge of the settlement. In the cadastral area of Roudnice, it flows back into the Bystřice. This course is particularly illustrative when exploring the area's landscape features, as it links the historic mill complex with a specific watercourse without implying any additional walking distance or a particular access point.

The Bystřice Nature Monument also runs through the Boharyně area, in the riverbed of the Bystřice. The section of the Bystřice originating in Boharyně is home to the rare thick-shelled river mussel, Unio crassus. The river therefore provides not only a geographical link to the area, but also a documented natural feature. The mussel's designation and habitat are part of the specialist character of this landscape, complementing the cultural and historical impressions with a specific conservation and nature theme.

Cycling Routes and Bus Connections

Cycle Route 4291 passes through Boharyně and runs from Praskačka via Libčany, Boharyně and Trnava to Kratonohy. It is 15 km long. Cycle Route 4291A runs from Boharyně to Zvíkov and is 2.5 km long.

Bus route 102 (611102) also connects Hradec Králové, Libčany, Boharyně and Nový Bydžov. The timetable is valid from 14 December 2025 to 12 December 2026.
