The Bystřice European protected area (CZ0523264) runs through the municipality of Sovětice. The priority species thick-shelled river mussel is associated with this protected area. The Bystřice natural monument (PP Bystřice) is also located in the eastern part of the cadastral area of Sovětice. The cadastral area refers to an officially delineated area.

Protected landscape features in the Sovětice area include forests, watercourses, ponds and floodplains. Floodplains are flat areas in a river valley that adjoin the watercourse and may be flooded when water levels are high. In the Sovětice area, flowing and standing waters therefore meet forest and floodplain areas. The European protected area and the natural monument have different spatial relationships: one runs through the municipality, while the other is located in the eastern part of the cadastral area.

From the first mention to the monument

The first written mention of Sovětice dates from 1369. Even earlier history is indicated by ceramic fragments from urns found in Sovětice and dated to the 6th to 9th centuries AD. Skalka Hill probably housed a rear support position of the Prussian artillery. The historical classification of this site is expressly subject to the reservation “probably.” The ceramic fragments therefore clearly predate the written record from 1369 and point to a local history that did not begin with the medieval mention.

Another visible connection to history is the monument to those who fell in the First World War. It depicts a woman with a bouquet of flowers and a military helmet. Plaques on the pedestal list the names of the fallen. The depiction thus combines a figurative motif with a named commemoration.
