Všestudy – Flat Landscape and Historic Buildings

If you would like to combine culture, landscape and an unusual local history, VÅ¡estudy offers several specific points of interest. The municipality is characterized by flat, agriculturally used landscape; avenues, floodplain forest, Veltrusy Chateau Park and distinctive buildings shape the themes from which you can choose during your exploration.

Flat Landscape, Park and Protected Nature

The roads in Všestudy are mostly lined with avenues of trees of different ages and species. In some places, the Mlýnský potok and the floodplain forest of Veltrusy Park form the municipal boundary. In the vicinity of Všestudy, Veltrusy Chateau Park is freely accessible from sunrise to sunset. Access to the park from sunrise to sunset therefore provides a broad time frame for your own exploration and planning each day during your stay.

The natural area also includes the cadastral area of VÅ¡estudy u Veltrus. It belongs to the 297.4-hectare Veltrusy Site of Community Importance. The protected species listed there include the hermit beetle (Osmoderma eremita) and the European stag beetle (Lucanus cervus). Thus, alongside the agriculturally shaped landscape, specific elements of the protected natural area are also central.

Červený mlýn at Veltrusy Chateau Park

Červený mlýn, a Neo-Gothic mill dating from 1792, lies at the northeastern edge of Veltrusy Chateau Park in the cadastral area of Všestudy. Among the historically significant buildings in the municipality of Všestudy that have been included in the list of protected monuments, Červený mlýn is the exception.

Its history encompasses several different phases of use. After restoration and the removal of the milling equipment, Červený mlýn served as a guesthouse and excursion restaurant. During the Second World War, it was the headquarters of the Hitler Youth; after 1948, it was converted into a retirement home. The former mill thereby combines architectural history with markedly changing functions.

Further Architectural Heritage

The former hop-drying facility of VÅ¡estudy is a significant building. The bell tower of VÅ¡estudy has existed since 1948. It is a brick circular structure on a circular base; its new bell was brought back and consecrated in 2007. The years thus mark two different stages in the history of this building.

Žabincový prolog and Its Routes

A local cycling tradition is also part of the area’s history. The revived, humorous cycling competition Žabincový prolog reached its sixth edition in Všestudy in 2015 in its more recent history. The 2014 Žabincový prolog included a five-kilometre route for adults, as well as 500-metre routes for children and 50-metre routes for the youngest participants. That edition therefore clearly distinguished between adults, children and the youngest participants.
