Hostín u Vojkovic: Discover History, Landscape and Nature

Hostín u Vojkovic combines remarkable sacred buildings with a broad landscape along the Labe and Vltava rivers. At the northern edge of the village lies Selská tůň, a natural-looking body of water, while sports facilities and the area’s distinctive transport situation provide practical considerations for planning your trip. If you would like to combine culture, nature and regional features, the village offers several different points of interest.

Romanesque and Early Gothic Parish Church

The parish church of “Kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie” in Hostín u Vojkovic is a Romanesque and Early Gothic sacred building. After 1615, it was partly remodelled in the Renaissance style and transformed in the Baroque style in the 18th century. A Gothic southern portal and an Early Gothic presbytery have been preserved. The church was already a parish church in 1290; its first mention dates from 1320. This means that a single building brings together several clearly distinguishable periods in architectural history.

The Božího těla Chapel

Another historical feature is the cemetery chapel “Kaple Božího těla”. It was built from 1735 to 1736 in the Baroque style under the direction of the Italian Jeroným Costa. Its original circular floor plan is particularly striking: the interior diameter is 12 m and the exterior diameter is 17 m. These two measurements make the distinctive spatial form concrete and provide a clear indication of the proportions of the building.

Selská tůň and the Landscape Along the Labe and Vltava

Hostín u Vojkovic lies in broad, flat, open terrain along the Labe and Vltava rivers. Selská tůň, a natural-looking body of water with riparian communities and floodplain forest, is located at the northern edge of the village. It is a remnant of a naturally deepened section of a meander of the Vltava. The Selská tůň area is also a biotope for specially protected amphibian, reptile and bird species. When planning your excursion, therefore, the focus here is not only on the water and open landscape, but also on the distinctive origins of this habitat.

Sports Facilities and Getting There

Hostín u Vojkovic has a football field as well as a tennis and volleyball court with artificial lighting and appropriate equipment. If you would like to include exercise and a range of activities during your stay, you can find several sports in one place. When choosing your accommodation, you should also take the transport situation into account: Hostín u Vojkovic can only be reached via road II/101 from Neratovice to Kralupy nad Vltavou and has neither a railway connection nor any other transport link.

Regional Tradition

Agriculture is also part of the character of the region. Fruit and vegetable cultivation, as well as sugar beet farming, have a long-standing tradition in the Hostín u Vojkovic region due to the soil and climatic conditions. For your trip, this aspect offers an additional perspective on the landscape and its established use.
