Tuchoměřice: Castle History and Paths Through the Landscape

Tuchoměřice combines distinctive cultural history with a landscape that can be explored on hiking and cycling routes. The Renaissance Zámek sv. Víta castle stands on a hill above Tuchoměřice. Kostel sv. Víta is the parish church of Tuchoměřice. The eastern façade was completed in 1732–1736 and bears sandstone statues that are probably from the workshop of Matyáš Bernard Braun.

Another historical trace is the granary in Tuchoměřice. It dates from 1711 and has been preserved almost in its original form. The granary therefore comes from a period between the oldest parts of today’s castle, dating from after 1665, and the completion of the church façade in 1732–1736.

Kněžívka and the Landscape Experience

The Kněžívka natural monument landscape has been under state protection since 1978. On the most prominent summit, locally known as Kobyla, smoothed surfaces can be observed as traces of the surf of the Cretaceous Sea in Bohemia. Kobyla is the local name for this summit. This detail makes the landscape interesting not only spatially, but also from a geological perspective.

The Únětický potok also flows through Tuchoměřice. It complements the hills and protected areas with a watercourse.

Hiking and Cycling Around the Village

A red-marked hiking trail leads from Tuchoměřice. The CT 0078 cycling route also passes through the village. In addition, there are several cycling routes around Tuchoměřice that run along field tracks or lightly trafficked roads. The routes therefore already differ in their described path structure: alongside the marked hiking trail, there is a specific cycling route, supplemented by further connections through the surrounding area.

Tuchoměřice is suitable as a starting point for half-day or full-day cycling trips in the surrounding area.
