Senohraby between River Landscape and History

Senohraby combines trails through the landscape along the Mnichovka and Sázava rivers with historical traces and distinctive local traditions. The surrounding area can be explored via signposted routes, a castle ruin, a traditional ferry and places with regional history. Senohraby railway station also provides clear guidance for arrival: the station building and all platforms are step-free. This offers clear orientation before setting out on the paths and visiting the historic destinations in the surrounding area.

Hiking Routes with Clear Points of Reference

Vodnické vycházky comprises 13 stops and is divided into the three sections Ondřejovská, Lensedelská and Senohrabská. A yellow-marked hiking trail connects Senohraby railway station with the ruins of Zlenice Castle. The educational and experiential route Vodnické vycházky follows the right bank of the Mnichovka to the Sázava. From there, visitors can reach Zlenice Castle, also known as Hláska, and try out a newly built viewpoint. Dividing the route into three sections makes it easier to mentally organize the 13 stops and view the hike as a series of different stages.

Castle Ruins and Chapel

Only the ruins of Zlenice Castle remain today. The ruins are commonly known as Hláska after their dominant tower remnant. The castle was founded after 1300 on a rocky promontory; below it, the Mnichovický Stream flows into the Sázava. In Senohraby, visitors can also see a chapel dedicated to Saint Adalbert. It was built in 2010 and 2011 using donations from local residents. Together with the chapel, this creates a historical arc from the medieval history of the castle to the more recent history of the village.

The Sázava, Ferry and Water Tourism

Plovárna Senohraby is located on the right bank of the Sázava at river kilometre 37.6, where the Sázava meets the Mnichovka, between Senohraby and Čtyřkoly, opposite the settlement of Zlenice. Another distinctive feature is the traditional Senohraby ferry, moved by a simple pole, which remains a tourist attraction to this day. In the southeastern part of the area, the seasonal recreation centre Poddubí (U Bořka) is located on the banks of the Sázava and focuses on water tourism connected with the Sázava. Its location at the confluence thus combines the river landscape, traditional ferry and seasonal water tourism as different facets of the same area.

Winter and Local History

In connection with the Vávrův palouk ski area in Senohraby, there are cross-country ski trails in the cadastral areas of Senohraby and Pětihost; various races take place there, including, for example, a Vasaloppet-style race for amateurs. The ski jump on the northern edge of Hláska Hill was put into operation on 15 January 1933. Since 1971, Senohraby has also hosted the walking march “Okolo hvězdárny k Ladově chalupě”. The historic appearance of the village also includes a complex of villas as well as tramp and non-tramp cabins, which is considered a unique complex of historical value in the Czech lands.
