Discover Hobšovice: Nature, Culture and Local Traditions

Hobšovice Between Village History and Pond Landscapes

Between village history, protected wetlands and small cultural attractions, Hobšovice reveals different sides of Czech rural life. A prominent landmark in the landscape around Hobšovice is the Church of Saint Wenceslas. Its original form was Gothic; in 1850, a Baroque tower with three bells was added on the western side. For a walk through the village, the church therefore provides a cultural point of reference: its architectural history combines Gothic beginnings with a 19th-century Baroque addition.

The Hobšovický rybník Pond and Protected Wetlands

The Hobšovický rybník pond lies on the Bakovský potok stream in the western part of the Hobšovice cadastral area. The pond is a specially protected natural monument covering approximately 10 hectares. At the same time, it is a regional biocentre and is protected because of an important bird nesting site and the wetland communities found there. Numerous gulls nest every year on an island in the Hobšovický rybník pond.

The protected Mokřiny u Beřovic area also includes the Hobšovice cadastral area. It is protected as an important nesting, resting and migratory bird area, as well as a habitat for wetland animals and plants. In addition to its village history, the area therefore has a clear connection with nature.

Educational Trail with 21 Stops

The educational trail along the Bakovský, Vranský and Zlonický rivers is part of the natural and local landscape. It opened in 2013, and stop 19 is located in Hobšovice. The trail has 21 stops in total; the routes can be combined into different lengths. Stop 19 places Hobšovice within this larger trail network, while the combinable lengths allow for excursions of varying distances. If you would like to keep your excursion planning flexible, you can use these different route options as a guide.

Doll Museum and Small Collections

The Minimuzeum panenek provides a distinctive cultural attraction. Since February 4, 2024, it has been located in the former shop premises at Hobšovice No. 20. Historical and retro dolls, as well as other toys, are on display. Visits to the Minimuzeum panenek Hobšovice can also be arranged for another date.

Monuments and Local Traditions

A monument featuring a statue of the Risen Christ stands on the road to Luníkov. It was erected in 1878 in memory of two young people who tragically lost their lives there. The Neoclassical monument was restored in 2012 and 2013 and subsequently returned to its original location.

The traditional Bartolomějská pouť pilgrimage festival takes place in Hobšovice on the last Saturday in August. The Hobšovická motoristická burza is also considered a traditional event. Both occasions complement the nature and cultural themes with local events.
