Otročiněves – History, Krušná hora and Cycling Routes
Otročiněves combines a long local history with the landscape at the foot of Krušná hora. The Habrový potok flows through the town, while historical traces, regional traditions and several cycling connections open up different travel ideas. If you would like to combine culture with active days, you will find concrete starting points here for your planning.
Landscape at Krušná hora
Otročiněves lies at the foot of the 609-metre-high Krušná hora. The mountain defines the town's geographical setting and also represents its industrial history. The mining of iron ore on Krušná hora was part of the historical development of the local ironworks industry and was discontinued in 1964. The production of charcoal in the forests of Křivoklátsko was also part of this development together with iron ore mining.
Historical traces around Otročiněves
The first written mention of Otročiněves dates back to 1005. Most of the town belonged to the dominion of Křivoklát Castle. A chapel dedicated to Saint John the Baptist is said to have been built on Velíz around 1005. Guards from Otročiněves were assigned to the chapel on Velíz. These connections link the town's history with the history of the surrounding political and sacred landscape, without requiring you to limit yourself to a single attraction.
Traditions that keep the town lively
The “Otevírání studánek” tradition was revived in Otročiněves in 2024 and held for the second consecutive time in 2025. During the traditional “Pochod na Děd”, there were various activity stations for children and parents along the way; the destination was the Děd lookout tower. The traditional “Dýňování” included competitions and a courage trail and ended with roasting sausages. Thus, alongside historical themes, community experiences are also at the centre.
