Broumy between Glassworks History and Protected Landscapes

Broumy combines historical evidence, living local traditions and a landscape with special protection status. The entire cadastral area lies within the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area. At the same time, the village preserves tangible traces of its past: from glassmaking to agriculture and crafts, as well as a festival tradition that is still maintained today. Broumy therefore offers different starting points for planning your trip – cultural discoveries, organised hiking activities and insights into local life.

Glassworks, Museum and Local History

The Broumy glassworks was established in 1599 by the glassmaker Kryštof Schürer on the basis of a letter of majesty issued by Emperor Rudolf II. The main building has survived to this day as the former home of the Broumy glassmaker. In the present-day U DVORA area, you can also visit the sites of the former Broumy glassworks and the former farmyard.

The Muzeum Broumy complements this historical focus with a collection of beetles and butterflies donated to the municipality by Miloš Kohout. It also includes a room devoted to agriculture and crafts, as well as a small exhibition of old office equipment. The museum offers guided tours by prior arrangement. This allows you to incorporate a museum visit into your plans with ease.

Traditions and Experiences Throughout the Year

The local amateur theatre ensemble has performed under the name “MÁJ” since 1941 and is the second-oldest in the Beroun area. Another special feature is Staročeské máje: this local tradition is still maintained and organised independently by the young people of Broumy.

For hiking enthusiasts, the municipality organises the “Broumský špacír” hiking day every year on the second Saturday in October. Routes of 10, 15 and 20 km are available. Participants receive a certificate of participation and a small refreshment. The three stated distances make it easier for you to plan the hiking day, without limiting the event to a single route. Another way to explore Broumy in a playful manner is the Questing Trail Broumy – Kublov – Velíz. It starts at the Broumy municipal office, where game cards and a map are available.

Nature with Clear Boundaries

The Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area characterises the entire cadastral area of Broumy. At the same time, part of the Týřov National Nature Reserve lies within Broumy. This area is not accessible. This distinction is important when choosing nature experiences: the protected landscape forms the broad framework, while the relevant part of the nature reserve is expressly off-limits.

There is also a notable historical connection in culinary terms: Pivovar Matuška was founded on 13 April 2009, Easter Monday. That day, the first batch brewed was a special dark lager. The brewery belongs to the category of small breweries.
