Obecnice: Nature Trails, Swimming and Church History

Obecnice brings together nature experiences, water and notable local history within a compact thematic area. You can learn about the landscape and its use along nature trails, discover various leisure activities at the swimming pool and visit the Church of St. Simon and Jude, a defining landmark of the village. When choosing your accommodation, it is therefore especially relevant whether you want to focus your stay on nature, culture, cycling or a day by the water.

Nature Trails Through the Landscape and Forest

The Klobouček forestry nature trail starts and ends at the visitor parking area by Obecnice's football pitch. Its 12 stations provide information about the Brdy, forestry, the composition of tree species in the area, plant life, wildlife, hunting and water retention in the landscape. The loop, with its starting and ending point in the same location, makes the nature trail an easy-to-understand, clearly defined excursion topic, while the stations connect different aspects of the forest and landscape.

In 2023, a free augmented-reality app was used on the Klobouček nature trail as part of a pilot project. At selected points in the forest, it displayed a red deer, a fox or a tawny owl. This information explicitly refers to the 2023 pilot project and does not describe current availability. The Fabiánova stezka nature trail also passes through Obecnice. It introduces tourists and cyclists to local sights and excursion destinations in the Podbrdsko region.

Water and Activities at the Swimming Pool

The Obecnice swimming pool is a concrete basin measuring 50 × 20 metres. It is fed by the Obecnický stream and has a gently sloping bottom for swimmers and non-swimmers. The grounds include a well-maintained lawn, privacy screens for changing, toilets for up to 200 people, refreshments and a children's play area with a small pool. In addition, the swimming pool complex offers an outdoor pool, tennis, volleyball and football tennis. This allows you to appreciate the importance of the complex both through its pool and through its additional sports and leisure facilities.

Church and Local History

The Church of St. Simon and Jude is the most important landmark of Obecnice and dates from 1807. Its tower was built in 1825, and two side chapels were added in 1854. The interior furnishings also contribute to its historical character, including a valuable Neoclassical pulpit from the late 18th century and Empire-style doors in the west portal. A visit to the church complements the nature experiences with a concrete insight into the architectural and local history.

Cycling and Protected Landscape

For a bicycle tour, the 9.5-kilometre cycle route 8198 connects Láz and Obecnice. The GEOFUN virtual nature trail is also located in the vicinity of Obecnice. Another important landscape connection is the CHKO Brdy Protected Landscape Area: Part of the Obecnice municipal area lies within this protected area, which was established on 1 January 2016. Its designated conservation features include valuable forest stands, meadows, wetlands, heathlands and numerous streams.
