Nový Jáchymov – Nature, Mining History and Culture

Nový Jáchymov is a place that combines natural surroundings, mining history and an unusual cemetery culture. The municipality lies in the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area, which is also a UNESCO biosphere reserve. The Habrový potok flows along the edge; a cascade of three ponds was created there. Hiking, Cycling and Ponds

The Naučná stezka Krušná hora – Hudlický vrch educational trail runs in the immediate vicinity of Nový Jáchymov and leads to the Máminka lookout tower. The marked cycle route 0053 from Pod Kolnou to Otročiněves also passes through the area. Regular bus services via Beroun and Králův Dvůr are available for getting there. Fishing is permitted at Prostřední Pond. However, fishing is prohibited from the dam and in the spawning area; as a general rule, only a single hook is permitted, except when spinning.

Mining History in the Village

The municipality of Nový Jáchymov was founded in 1810. The impetus was the construction of an ironworks with blast furnaces, a foundry and auxiliary facilities. The Cech building served as the entrance to an iron ore mine and was built in the Italian style in 1812. The walls on both sides of the Cech show a geological cross-section of Krušná hora, as well as the dip and thickness of the ore layers. The former Cech building, formerly the cáchovna, now serves as a restaurant. The Fürstenbergská huť at Boháčkova čp. 1 is also designated as a listed heritage property.

Lesní hřbitov Nový Jáchymov

The Lesní hřbitov Nový Jáchymov was founded in 1831 on the initiative of František Nittinger and is a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The cemetery is still in use for burials and is freely accessible to the public. Numerous graves are decorated with artistically designed crosses and tombstones. A large cast-iron cross with a corpus of Christ stands in the central area. In a small valley of the Lesní hřbitov Nový Jáchymov, the burial site of the A. Mayer family forms a distinct group of four monuments. This includes a central neo-Gothic cast-iron tomb for Antonín Mayer and his wife Johanna Mayerová, née Rumplerová. The Lesní hřbitov on the road to Červený Kříž is also designated as a listed heritage property.
