Kublov: Hiking and Culture around Velíz

Kublov is a destination where landscape and history stand closely side by side. Around Velíz, marked trails combine with views, protected cultural monuments and memories of J. L. Zvonař. The Křivoklátsko Landscape and Velíz

Kublov lies in the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area. A particularly vivid way to experience the landscape is the “Velíz Forest Panorama” educational trail. It runs along the slope of the distinctive Velíz hill and offers views of the Brdy and the Křivoklátská pahorkatina uplands. The trail therefore focuses not only on Velíz itself, but also directs your gaze towards two different landscape areas. For orientation, the landscape experience takes centre stage here: the slope of the hill and the expansive views are an integral part of the description of the educational trail.

Hiking trails with clear details

The “In the Footsteps of J. L. Zvonař” educational trail is a red-marked, 4 km-long hiking trail with an elevation difference of 164 m and leads to Velíz, which is 595 m high. Its length, marking and elevation difference provide concrete points for preparation without assigning the trail an overall difficulty rating. This allows you to assess the extent of the hike and the ascent yourself.

The “Green Trail – Across the Ridges” also passes through Kublov. It includes a marked turn-off to Velíz. In addition to the independent educational trail, there is therefore also a marked route running through the village. Those who want to combine nature with a connection to the village can distinguish between these two described types of trail when planning.

History on Velíz and in Kublov

On Velíz above Kublov lies the protected heritage area with the Church of Saint John the Baptist and the monastery fragment together with the monastery site. This area includes the church, the vicarage, the mortuary, a farm building, the perimeter wall, the medieval monastery fragment and the monastery site. The church, monastery fragment and associated buildings together form part of the protected heritage area.

J. L. Zvonař and Central Bohemian Building Culture

Kublov is also associated with the memory of J. L. Zvonař. Zvonařova roubenka, the birthplace of J. L. Zvonař, is a typical example of Central Bohemian folk architecture at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The J. L. Zvonař Memorial can be visited by prior arrangement. There is also a monument to J. L. Zvonař from 1871 in the park. These places have different focuses: the birthplace illustrates regional building culture, while the monuments commemorate the person and connect with his local remembrance.

Tradition and Visible Traces

A more recent event is also part of the cultural character of the village: the Staročeské máje festival took place again in Kublov in 2026 and included a Czech and Moravian Beseda. South of the complex on Velíz, remains of monastery walls are still visible. Kublov can therefore be discovered not only through individual buildings, but also through living traditions and preserved traces of the past.
