Hořešovičky: Discover Village History and Archaeology

Hořešovičky is a place where history is not limited to a single building. The municipality lies in the so-called Klobucká Plain and near the road between Prague and Chomutov. Chapel and Rural Architecture

A Baroque chapel from the 18th century bearing the coat of arms of the Kinský family stands in the village square of Hořešovičky. It connects the village center with a specific detail of art and cultural history.

The rural architecture includes the Hořešovičky No. 15 farmstead, which is heritage-protected. The complex is Neoclassical and includes a half-timbered farm building; it dates from the late 19th century. This gives you an idea of how varied the historical traces in the village are: here, the sacred architecture of the Baroque period stands alongside a later rural farm complex.

Archaeological Traces from Several Periods

The Acheulean archaeological site in Hořešovičky was discovered in autumn 2002. It yielded a large collection of stone tools made primarily from locally sourced Palaeozoic chert. The finds and settlement traces do not all belong to the same period: they range from the Acheulean site and a grave find from the 4th to 3rd century BC to settlements from the Roman Imperial period.

A grave find is also among the notable archaeological discoveries from Hořešovičky. In the garden of House No. 27, at a depth of 1.6 meters, the grave of a woman described as wealthy from the 4th was found.

Further evidence comes from the Roman Imperial period. Near Hořešovičky, a settlement from the older Roman Imperial period extended along a southeast-facing slope descending toward the Bílichovský potok stream. Several sunken huts, pits, and postholes were identified at the site. Two Roman bronze vessels were also found there. A few hundred meters northwest of Hořešovičky, another settlement existed in the 2nd to 3rd century. Thus, the local history encompasses not only individual finds but also several documented settlement traces and periods.

Events with a Historical Connection

Historická brázda Hořešovičky 2026 is another edition of an event dedicated to historic agricultural machinery. It is also a family and public event. The municipality of Hořešovičky also invites residents and visitors to the traditional Pálení čarodějnic event. Thus, alongside buildings and archaeological evidence, public traditions are also part of the village's range of events to experience.
