Hvozdec between the Brdy Landscape and Local History

The municipality of Hvozdec encompasses a mixed landscape of uplands and hilly terrain on the edge of the Brdy forest massif. This gives the area different points of interest for a trip: you can explore landscapes, use cycling connections and at the same time discover small cultural and historical features.

Landscape between Heights, Forest and Bodies of Water

At 536 m above sea level, Chlum is the area's dominant elevation. The mountain is predominantly covered with deciduous forest, while conifers are present only to a limited extent. Drátenický rybník provides a different accent: it is the largest and most valuable body of water in the municipality of Hvozdec. In Mrtník, the floodplain of the Červený potok is also a valuable landscape element. The landscape therefore ranges from a prominent wooded height through a significant body of water to a seemingly protected floodplain area.

Church, Wayside Cross and Preserved Houses

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Mrtník was built in 1352 on the site of an earlier chapel. Its cast-iron interior fittings were created by ironworkers and foundry workers from Komárov. Here, sacred architectural history meets Komárov's ironworking tradition. The church can be reached from Hvozdec via local roads. Cycling Route 0006, the green-marked hiking trail and the NS Okolím Komárova educational trail run by the church. Several marked connections therefore meet at this cultural destination.

In addition, several houses partly built using timber construction have been preserved.
