Šestajovice between Forest Paths, Local History and Special Experiences
Šestajovice between Local History and Klánovický Forest
Šestajovice combines a historic town center with paths through Klánovický Forest, a variety of cycling routes and unusual cultural attractions. This allows you to shape your stay according to your interests, focusing on nature, exercise, local history or family-oriented discoveries. When choosing your accommodation, the most important consideration is which of these aspects of the town you want to make the focus of your stay.
Culture and History in the Town
The historic center is located at and around Náměstí 9. května. There you will find an oval green area, a chapel, a memorial to those who fell in the world wars and seating. The first buildings were constructed in these locations at the beginning of the 13th century, forming the foundation of the Šestajovice municipality.
A special place to visit is RODAS Šestajovice. The site includes the first Czech museum of wax making and nativity scenes. The chocolate, candle and soap-making workshops, as well as a minifarm, are also open to the public according to the stated schedule. The site is intended for excursions, making your own products in the workshops, visiting the museum and visiting the minifarm.
Paths for Walks and Cycling Tours
The Botanical Garden in Šestajovice is freely accessible. Benches and a covered seating area are available for breaks; the latter is part of the adjacent cycling path. The cycling path includes a circular route exactly 800 m long and a 190 m section along the rampart. The tree-lined field avenues follow historic corridors of field paths and are now used for walking and sports.
Polní alej Běchovická continues to serve as a connection for pedestrians and cyclists between Šestajovice and Klánovice. Klánovický Forest also extends into the territory of Šestajovice. Several marked hiking trails and two circular cycling routes lead through the forest. The educational trail “Naučná stezka Klánovickým lesem” is 12.5 km long, has 17 stops and begins at Praha-Klánovice railway station.
For a shorter, clearly defined tour, there is the “Návštěva lesa” route. It is 3 km long and takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
Activities with Different Focuses
“Šestajovická šifrovačka” is primarily designed for adults and teenagers. “Cesta časem Šestajovicemi” is a geolocation game aimed at schoolchildren, teenagers and adults. In winter, the Vodní nádrž Beranka reservoir is used for ice skating; the Val u ČOV rampart is used for sledding in winter. Its upper section also features a platform that can be used for outdoor sports or for relaxing on a blanket.
When looking for accommodation in Šestajovice, you can choose between different focuses, including local history, forest paths, cycling routes and the offerings at RODAS. This keeps your plans open for a day in the historic center, a longer tour through the forest or an activity involving puzzle-solving and geolocation games.
