Discover Slušovice
Slušovice lies in the valley of the Dřevnice River at the foot of the Hostýnské vrchy and combines a distinctive landscape with unusual cultural and leisure attractions. If you would like to choose between nature, history, cycling and unique sports venues for your trip, the town offers several clearly distinct points of interest.
Church, monuments and a natural-history detail
The parish Church of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist was built between 1812 and 1815. The cross by the church dates from 1817 and is listed as an immovable cultural monument of the Zlín Region. Another cultural monument in Slušovice is the stone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. It dates from 1731 and also has the status of an immovable cultural monument.
The church is also notable from a natural-history perspective. Its roof spaces have been designated a site of European importance because of a summer colony of greater mouse-eared bats. This detail is part of the town's distinctive identity, but does not imply that the roof spaces are open to the public.
A racetrack with its own tradition
The Slušovice racetrack complex was built in 1981 for flat and steeplechase racing. Its most distinctive feature is its track layout: the Slušovice racetrack is the only racetrack in the Czech Republic with banked curves. A regular fixture in the events calendar is the Velká slušovická steeplechase, held every year on 28 October as a 5,200-metre steeplechase. Slušovice therefore represents a very specific form of horse racing that clearly differs from an ordinary day-trip destination.
Golf and cycling
The golf course of Derby Golf Club Slušovice is located within the racetrack complex. The course is flat and has nine holes. It is open to the public and welcomes all players, including beginners without a handicap.
Cycling route 5036, which is 27 kilometres long, also passes through Slušovice. It ends in Dešná, where it connects to long-distance cycling route 46. This makes it possible to plan a cycling trip along a specific route with a known destination. There is also an airfield on Bílá Hlína with a school for ultralight aircraft. This offering broadens the range of documented activities with an aviation-related attraction.
Getting around the racetrack
If you choose the racetrack as the focus of your stay, Výpočetní středisko is the nearest bus stop. Parking at the Slušovice racetrack is free. When choosing accommodation, you can therefore first decide whether you want to structure your stay primarily around the landscape and culture, cycling and golf, or the racetrack and its event tradition. This does not imply any specific amenities or availability at individual accommodations.
Other places to compare
If you would like to consider other places for your travel plans in addition to Slušovice, you can find Haluzice, Rudimov, Podhradí U Luhačovic, Slavičín, Tlumačov, Napajedla, Biskupice and Pozlovice here.
