Discover Slavičín

Slavičín combines a remarkable cultural history with cycling and hiking experiences, a freely accessible forest park and views of the White Carpathians. Cultural history between the church, museum and chateau

The Church of Saint Adalbert and Saint Cecilia is the oldest building in Slavičín and dates back to the 13th century. Its present appearance is the result of a complete reconstruction carried out in 1897 in the Baroque style. The cemetery around the church contains the grave of 28 American airmen who died in the air battle over the White Carpathians and were buried there on 31 August 1944.

At the Slavičín Town Museum, this history is vividly presented in a five-minute virtual reality experience about the air battle over the White Carpathians on 29 August 1944. The museum also displays archaeological finds from the Slavičínsko region dating from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages. Another exhibition is dedicated to the craft of “zvěroklestičství”, or animal castration, which is typical of the region. The Městské muzeum Slavičín is also a stop on the educational cycling tour “Letecká bitva Karpaty”.

Wichterle Chateau is also part of the town’s cultural character. It has been listed as an immovable cultural monument since 1964. The historic gallery in the chateau is freely open to the general public. This gives you various ways to discover Slavičín’s culture: sacred architecture, memorial sites, museum collections and a historic gallery.

Hiking and views of the White Carpathians

Piveček Forest Park was established in 1936 as a recreational area for the residents of Slavičín, especially employees of the Piveček family’s shoe factory. The park is freely accessible and combines nature with unusual design elements. It features a pond, a playground, dozens of wooden sculptures, a large natural amphitheater and a children’s playground.

If you would like to explore Slavičín on foot, the moderately difficult, 15-kilometre circular route “From Slavičín to Petrůvka” leads from the centre of Slavičín through Piveček Forest Park to the viewpoints above Petrůvka and back. Along the way, the circular route offers views of the White Carpathians. Vyhlídka sv. Kryštofa provides a distinctive highlight: the viewpoint is inspired by the forms of Gothic cathedrals, stained glass and the interplay of light. From there, you can see across the Slavičín landscape, including the Church of Saint Adalbert and Saint Cecilia and the chapel in Hrádek.

Cycling, outdoor swimming and active days

Slavičín offers cyclists several different options. Slavex Trails has four natural or slightly bike-park-style trails with a total length of more than 3.5 kilometres. Seasonal bike courses led by instructors and holiday camps for children complement this offering. Cycle Route 5238 connects Slavičín and Luhačovice and offers views of Slavičín against the backdrop of the peaks of the White Carpathians.

The educational cycling tour “Letecká bitva Karpaty” connects the town museum with the cemetery in Slavičín, where the 28 American airmen were buried. This allows cycling to be combined with a specific historical topic rather than viewing the history only in the museum.

For a stay involving water and leisure activities, the municipal outdoor swimming pool is situated in a wooded area near the chateau park, sports stadium and ponds. It is generally open from June to September and has a beach volleyball court for visitors.
