Rudimov – Nature, Trails and Regional History

Rudimov lies south of the picturesque Poolšaví, among wooded hills in the valley of the Třešňůvka stream, at an average altitude of 334 m. The entire cadastral area belongs to the White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area. This gives the village a distinctive landscape combined with trails, regional history and an unusually vivid food culture. If you would like to combine nature experiences with cultural discoveries during your stay, Rudimov offers several different points of interest.

Protected Landscape and Trails Through the White Carpathians

Extensive traditional tall-trunk orchards are a defining feature of the landscape. They contain original regional fruit varieties adapted to the natural conditions. At the same time, the meadows provide a refuge for orchids, specialised insect populations and birds that have been displaced from intensively farmed agricultural landscapes.

A yellow-marked hiking trail connecting Slavičín and Bojkovice runs through the cadastral area. For cycling tours, Route 5054 from Slavičín to Luhačovice and Route 5056 from Bojkovice to Luhačovice pass through Rudimov. Another option is the moderately challenging circular route “Ze Slavičína na Petrůvku”: it is 15 km long, has an elevation gain of 238 m and runs around Rudimov. Depending on the distance you prefer, you can therefore choose between a connecting hiking trail, signposted cycle routes and a precisely described circular tour.

Crafts, Monuments and Older Traces

Rudimov has a distinctive local craft heritage. Traditional animal castration has been documented here since 1545 and was practised by almost all adult men at the beginning of the 20th century. A wooden log-built bell tower dating from 1780 is listed under number 2063. Also listed is a richly carved wooden cross created in 1820 by a folk artist; its number is 2064.

The remains of the Slavic hillfort of Gradca lie in the Zachrástí–Ploštiny field area. Protected burial mounds can also be found in the field areas of Gradca, Spalica and Paličky. Archaeological finds in the cadastral area date from the Eneolithic through the Hallstatt period and the Celtic period to the Early Middle Ages. More recent history is also present in the village landscape: the Rudimov memorial to local victims of the First World War consists of a pyramidal group of stones made from unworked sandstone blocks of various sizes, with a group of figures depicting a woman and a dying soldier. A second war memorial commemorates Romanian and Soviet soldiers who died near the municipality during the Second World War in an artillery attack.

Regional Products and Small Excursion Destinations

The orchards are also reflected in the village’s history. Many farmsteads had fruit dryers; dried fruit was exported from Rudimov on a large scale, and powidl was cooked in several locations. Today, the Maso z lúky / Farma Rudimov shop sells meat, sausages, jerky, dried plums, pears, chutneys, sauces and other local products. Direct collection of products is possible at Rudimov 105, 763 21.

At the entrance to the village, behind the sports complex, there is a biotope or multipurpose pool for swimming. Visitors can also use a self-service buffet there. Another aspect of the area is represented by the aviation museum, with its collection of aircraft and ship models. In July and August, it is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. This allows you to combine the landscape, exercise, regional produce, water and a museum visit at clearly specified times when planning your stay.
