Bojkovice – Castle, Educational Trails and Historical Discoveries

The history of the castle, an educational trail from the centre to the castle and unusual examples of folk architecture give Bojkovice a distinctive cultural profile. The combination of short discoveries in the town and longer routes in the Bojkovsko area is particularly interesting. Nový Světlov Castle and Routes Through the Surrounding Area

Nový Světlov Castle dates back to the 15th century. It was subsequently rebuilt several times, most recently in the Tudor Gothic style. The Muzeum Bojkovska offers a more in-depth look at the castle’s history: A castle exhibition displays part of the original furnishings from Nový Světlov and supplements them with items from Návojná Castle.

The castle can also be combined with an educational trail running between the centre of Bojkovice and Nový Světlov. The route has five stops and is suitable for hiking. It is 656 m long and has an elevation difference of approximately 50 m. In addition to the castle exhibition, this provides a clearly described connection between the town centre and the castle.

For longer hikes, the educational trail in the Bojkovsko area offers two circular route options: a large circuit of 24 km and a small circuit of 16 km. Ten information boards in total are located along this educational trail. The two route lengths provide a specific choice between a more extensive circuit and a shorter option, without requiring you to commit to just one type of outing.

Folk Architecture, Museum and Sacred Heritage

A particularly valuable example of traditional folk architecture is the historic house at Potok No. 302 in Bojkovice. The clay-built dwelling has no farm section and was constructed from unfired bricks on a rubble-stone foundation. Local traditional materials and traditional craftsmanship were used. Visits can be arranged on weekdays directly through the Muzeum Bojkovska or by telephone.

The Muzeum Bojkovska can also arrange guided tours of the Church of St Lawrence in Bojkovice by prior telephone appointment. The cemetery contains two hexagonal towers from the 16th century known as Tetaurky. One of the towers houses a lapidarium, while the other contains sculptures depicting a scene from the Garden of Gethsemane. The two towers add their own historical accent alongside the castle, museum and folk architecture.

A Lookout Tower with a Precise Historical Connection

The Na Skalce lookout tower is also part of the townscape and surrounding landscape. It was built on the initiative of the KBS-SOS civic association with the support of the investor MěÚ Bojkovice in August and September 2011. The tower, constructed from larch and spruce wood, stands on Mr Juračka’s property approximately 1 km northeast of the Krhov district in the Skalka area.
