Vrbka

Vrbka combines a themed educational trail, a distinctive natural area and an engaging local history. The place is therefore suitable for a trip in which you do not view landscape and culture separately, but get to know them in their different facets. At the centre is the educational trail Po sakrálních památkách obce Vrbka, complemented by the Early Medieval burial mound field of Tabarky, the Vrbka Natura 2000 site and a museum dedicated to the history of the village.

Educational trail with eleven stations

The educational trail Po sakrálních památkách obce Vrbka is 8.7 km long, including the section to Tabarky. It runs through gently hilly terrain and uses local roads as well as field paths. This clearly defines not only the length of the route, but also its character: it passes through a varied sequence of paved and rural sections of path.

Along the educational trail there are 11 stations at memorial crosses and images of saints. These stations give the route its sacred and local focus. The section to Tabarky also connects the educational trail with another prominent testimony to Vrbka's older history.

Tabarky and the Natural Area of Vrbka

Today, 15 burial mounds are visible at the Early Medieval burial mound field of Tabarky; a total of 42 burial mounds have been identified in the area. The different numbers describe two specific perspectives on the same site: 15 burial mounds are visible, while a total of 42 burial mounds have been identified archaeologically.

The Vrbka Natura 2000 site comprises semi-natural dry grasslands and shrub formations on calcareous substrates. Numerous rare plant, animal and fungal species occur in this area.

Museum of Ancient History and Local Crafts

The Venkovské muzeum Aloise Otýpky was founded in 1998 in House No. 54 in Vrbka by the local collector and expert on local history, Alois Otýpka. The exhibition presents the oldest history of Vrbka, thus broadening the view of the place with an indoor, collection-based perspective.

Objects from local crafts are also on display. These include tools for processing flax and hemp. Together with the educational trail and Tabarky, they create an image of the village that presents religious monuments, early settlement history, crafts and nature in distinct thematic areas.

Cycling and Circular Horse-Riding Route through Vrbka

There are also two differently designated routes for finding your way along paths through the surrounding area. A red-marked circular horse-riding route passes through Vrbka. In addition, cycle route No. 5017 runs through the village; it leads from Halenkovice, U svatých, to Kula. The two details should be considered separately: the circular horse-riding route is marked in red, while the cycle route is identified by its number and its course between Halenkovice, U svatých, and Kula.
