Roštění – Church, Traditions and Trails

Roštění is a destination for travelers who want to combine culture, vibrant traditions and routes through the surrounding area. Its history reaches far back: Roštění is one of the old settlements and is mentioned as early as 1141 in a document issued by Jindřich Zdík, Bishop of Olomouc. Today, the Roman Catholic Church of St. Florian is the main feature of the village. It was consecrated in 1933 and is a functionalist building with a semicircular apse.

Church and Listed Heritage Sites

Inside the church is a hand-painted coffered ceiling with 60 colorful panels. The altar also houses a reliquary containing the relics of Saint Urban and Jan Sarkander. St. Florian’s therefore offers several specific details through which the local history of sacred architecture and construction can be understood. The church is considered Roštění’s most important landmark.

Another monument lies southeast of Roštění: Poklona is a listed wayside niche chapel with the heritage number 20856/7-6122. Roštění is also home to the “Lípa u Poklony” memorial tree. Visitors interested in smaller cultural monuments and local history can include these different sites in their exploration of the village.

Hody and Local Traditions

The traditional Hody festival takes place in May on the feast day of Saint Florian. During the Hody celebrations on May 3, 2026, a procession accompanied by the Sebraňáci brass band went from the fire station to the local church dedicated to Saint Florian. This was followed by a festive lunch and social gathering at the local Roštěnka inn. This event shows Roštění not only as a historic place, but also as a setting where community customs become visible.

Other local traditions include Stavění. A traditional fruit brandy tasting takes place in Roštění at the fire station. The 2026 Hody festival is already in the past; no future event date can be inferred from it.

Cycling Trails, Equestrian Route and Surroundings

Roštění is well connected to cycling trails, making it a suitable starting point for exploring on two wheels, without implying any specific route or travel time. The 75-kilometer equestrian route “Po formanských stezkách křížem krážem Moštěnkou a Hříběcími horami” run by MAS Partnerství Moštěnka also passes through Roštění. The route is explicitly designated as an equestrian route and should therefore not be equated with a cycling trail.

In the immediate surroundings of Roštění, Kostelecký les is a frequent destination for mushroom pickers. In the village itself, there is a multipurpose sports field with artificial turf, offering opportunities for sports activities. In neighboring Rymice, there is a windmill that is worth visiting.
