Počenice-Tetětice combines distinctive cultural landmarks with clearly defined landscape features. In Počenice, the church, the first written mention and a long-standing carnival custom lead to different chapters of the village’s history; Tetětice adds the Chapel of the Guardian Angels and the forest at the source of the Haná stream. You can plan your stay around your cultural and landscape interests.

Church and local history

The present-day Church of Saint Bartholomew in Počenice was built between 1764 and 1768 on the site of the former Church of Saint Peter. The current church building and its location therefore point to two different chapters in the local history of the church. The building has a single-nave body, a western tower, an eastern presbytery and a sacristy adjoining it on the north. This clear layout makes the architecture easy to understand: the main space, tower, presbytery and sacristy each have a distinct location.

The first written mention of Počenice dates to 1283. There is also a statue of Saint Joseph in Počenice. Together, these offer two different religious points of interest: the history and layout of a church building, and a separate statue of a saint. The local history also extends beyond written records. Archaeological finds in and around the municipality span several periods and cultures.

Archaeological traces and landscape

Archaeological finds include evidence from the Stone Age and Bronze Age, from the Lusatian culture, and from the later hillfort period. This chronological range offers a different perspective on the history of the village than the first written mention in 1283: it points to much earlier traces of settlement and to several distinct periods in the past.

The landscape can also be described through specific waterways. Počenice lies at the confluence of the Uhřický potok and the Tištínka stream. North of the edge of Tetětice, near the source of the Haná stream, there is a small forest with a small retention pond. The municipality of Počenice-Tetětice lies in the foothills of the Chřiby, at the transition between the Haná region and the Orlovická vrchovina. This geographical description applies to the municipality, while the confluence is specifically in Počenice and the forest is in the surroundings of Tetětice.

The Chapel of the Guardian Angels, with a bell tower, stands in the southern part of Tetětice. Together with the church in Počenice, it offers another specific point of interest for travelers interested in religious buildings. The locations of the two sites are distinct: the Church of Saint Bartholomew is in Počenice, while the Chapel of the Guardian Angels is in the southern part of Tetětice.

Carnival tradition in Počenice

A 2017 municipal bulletin described the carnival procession in Počenice as a long-standing tradition. Masked participants walked through the village, accompanied by two accordion players. During the house visits described in the bulletin, participants traditionally received doughnuts and Boží milosti, a Czech carnival pastry. The timing matters when planning a trip: if you want to see the procession, ask in advance for a current date rather than assuming it takes place every year.

Planning your stay

A description from 2015 mentions a mobile guide to the municipality. It brought together information about nearby sights, dining and services, as well as news about cultural and community events in the region. If you would like to use this digital guide, check in advance whether it is still available.
