Zdislavice Castle and Marie Ebner-Eschenbach

The castle was built at the end of the 17th century on the site of a stone fortress. Count Dubský had it remodelled in the 1840s. Two building phases therefore meet at this site: the castle’s construction and its later transformation in the 19th century.

Marie Ebner-Eschenbach is also connected with the castle: she was born there on 13 September 1830. Her remains were later transferred to Zdislavice and laid to rest in the Dubský family crypt. Her birthplace and final resting place mark two stages in her life story. If you are interested in the writer, you can consider this biographical connection a focus of your trip alongside the castle’s history.

Walking trails and places to visit on foot

The Kaštanová walk leads from the castle in Zdislavice along a road and a green tourist trail towards Honětice and the Marian Chapel. Check the trail markers on site as you go. The route description mentions both the path along the trail and the chapel as its destination.

A short detour of about 100 metres leads to a spring with benches and the St Florian Chapel. This is a different specific destination from the Marian Chapel at the end of the Kaštanová walk.

Kamenný stůl is also a destination in its own right for an outing: the viewpoint is about one kilometre from the castle, and the path climbs gently through fields. At the destination, there are two benches and a stone table. From here, you can see the Chřiby hills with the Brdo observation tower and the Zdenička observation tower. The seating also makes it a good place to stop and enjoy the view at leisure.
