Chropyně offers various reasons to visit: tours of the historic interiors of Zámek Chropyně, church art at Kostel sv. Jiljí, the Hanácké slavnosti, and nature at Chropyňský rybník. The legend of King Ječmínek is also one of the town’s stories. This gives you different ways to plan your trip, balancing culture, tradition, and a circular walk by the water.

Castle History and Emil Filla

Zámek Chropyně offers public tours of its historic interiors. The rooms on the first floor present the history of Chropyně, beginning with prehistoric times. The second floor commemorates Emil Filla, who was from Chropyně and worked as a painter, sculptor, and graphic artist. The two floors thus offer different focal points: one centers on the town’s history, the other on the legacy of an individual artist. Visitors interested in both will find different ways to explore Chropyně’s cultural history at the castle.

Church, Art, and Festival Traditions

Kostel sv. Jiljí was built in 1772 in the Baroque, so-called Josephine style. Its furnishings include a baptismal font by an unknown artist. It depicts the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist, with life-size figures. The building’s history and its visual depiction provide two specific points of reference for appreciating the church. The baptismal font is an independent artistic subject, and its depicted scene can be identified even without any prior knowledge of art history.

The Hanácké slavnosti have been held in Chropyně every other year since 1985, in odd-numbered years. Their schedule therefore differs from that of an annual event. If you want to plan your trip around the festivities, check the date for the relevant year. Local tradition also includes the legend of King Ječmínek: it probably reached Chropyně with the Ludanici, who came from Hungary and owned the town in the 15th century. The legend is also associated with the Arpádovci, Hungary’s first ruling dynasty.

Educational Trail, Pond, and Outdoor Pool

Chropyňský rybník is a pond with floating water chestnuts and a diverse bird population. From the castle side, the “Okolo Chropyně” educational trail joins a green-marked hiking route and then continues along a circular route around the pond. This makes both nature and a specific walking route central to a visit by the water. Chropyně is also served by regular bus connections; if you are planning to travel there, check the timetable for your chosen travel date.

The outdoor pool is open seasonally from May to September. In 2026, its hours in May and June, and again in September, are 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends. In July and August, it is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The difference between these parts of the season is useful when planning your day: during the summer months, the pool opens in the morning every day, while on weekdays in May, June, and September it opens later. Keep these hours in mind if the outdoor pool is part of your travel plans.

Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests

Castle tours, the church, and the Hanácké slavnosti offer cultural and historical highlights; the educational trail, pond, and seasonal outdoor pool provide other options to consider. If a festival date or a visit to the pool is a deciding factor, take the relevant dates or seasonal opening hours into account. You can then compare a hotel’s location with your own daily plans without having to combine culture and nature into a single itinerary.
